Bonus Blog - ReJoining the Maintenance Team

Wednesday, March 19, 2014

If you read my WholeHearted Living blog you may have guessed following treatment I continued to exercise, but more sporadically and with less joy, and found myself becoming less ‘connected’ with making my body as healthy as possible…

I am re-joining the Maintenance Team as a way to become ‘Wholely’ accountable for improving body composition, since without intervention, body fat increases and water content decreases with age. www.ext.colostate.edu/pu
bs/foodnut/09322.html

And of course, I couldn’t resist researching how to measure composition. (Yes WATERMELLEN, this is a brog…)

Per a chart recommended by www.sparkpeople.com/reso
urce/fitness_articles.asp?
id=286

it appears I ‘should’ aim for less than 30%, although I could not find any supporting documentation for the posted Body Fat Guidelines from the American Dietetics Association, and given the US Army considers 30% a baseline www.apft-standards.com/f
emalebodyfat.html

I’d say there’s room for confusion…

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bo
dy_fat_percentage
offers several ways to measure fat/lean % including the formula: Body fat percentage = 1.2 x BMI + 0.23 x age - 5.4 - 10.8 x gender (0 for women and 1 for men)

Or you can use a calculator from www.linear-software.com/
online.html

I plan to use my Aria (consistent with my couch potato behavior) www.fitbit.com/aria but post my fat/lean % ticker.

I also plan to continue 'practicing' BEcoming "AWAKE! ALIVE! AWARE! and Appreciative of ALL that IS"

Namaste

2nd what Watermellen and Onekidsmom said!
When you are at goal, nothing left to improve except how much better you can make your body composition -I struggle with a higher % of body fat and that is due to being unable to strength train. It goes a long way to helping with it..

It's one of the places you belong, Becky! emoticon In fact, didn't we meet in the At Goal and Maintaining team first? Not that it matters, you can't get rid of me now... I know where you live! emoticon

Hey, no brogging involved in sharing your superb research skills with us!! We're grateful for all the ground work and slogging you do in bringing info about nutrition and fitness and spiritual growth right here, for the benefit of all of us!!

I'm not a "good" team member here at Spark (don't do challenges etc) . . . but I have huge respect and gratitude for the work of the fine people heading up At Goal and Maintaining: Transition to Maintenance. Really believe it's "the" most important team here because that's what we all want: not just to lose, but to maintain weight loss permanently.
