Blog about it emoticon

Yesterday's blog was a little lame, but I'm enjoying the discipline of finding something significant to share everyday. I find the exercise fun (if a little time consuming :) And I love when people find something new or interesting to think about or do.

I’m going to focus on music, some of my favorites, old and new that inspire me to move more, and some that just move me (as in emotionally.)

You may know this music or it may be new to you, but my goal is that even if you know it, I want to get you to think about it in a different way. Most of this is really old stuff that I’ve rediscovered recently but maybe some of it is new to you…

The first is “All Star” by Smash Mouth

An oldie but goodie. Great beat and upbeat message.

Hey now you're an All Star get your game on, go play
Hey now you're a Rock Star get the show on get paid
And all that glitters is gold
Only shooting stars break the mold

Next is “Cinema” by Skrillex

k6lVhGeyXuw

Skrillex is a really funky techno band and I don’t appreciate much of their stuff, but this song intrigues me and the interludes of psychedelic techno babble music I find fun and an interesting contrast to most of the conventional stuff I listen to.

Next is “1985” by Bowling for Soup

www.youtube.com/watch?v=
K38xNqZvBJI

This is an oldie but goodie for me and I just rediscovered it recently. Great beat. Fun references to the year 1985. Where were you in 1985?

Almost everything by Bowling for Soup is spectacular. "Somebody Get My Mom", "Ohio" and "High School Never Ends" come to mind. Check them out.

Next is “Feel Good Inc.” by Gorilaz

I have no idea what the words mean. It’s kind of like “Safety Dance” in that the words are pure gibberish to me, but I love the beat.

“The Show” by Hawk Nelson

Super fun song.

Here we go
Let's take 'em to the show whoaoh
C'mon, turn on your radio
whoaoh
Let's go

Next is "Stereo Hearts" (Featuring Adam Levine) by Gym Class Heros

Love, Love, Love this song. The thought is so sweet: My Heart's a Stereo that Beats for YOU! Who would not want someone to sing that to them?

It has some rap in it, so if you hate rap, you might skip. Or you might give it a go and discover a new favorite….

www.youtube.com/watch?v=
T3E9Wjbq44E

My heart's a stereo
It beats for you, so listen close
Hear my thoughts in every no-o-o-te (yeah, yeah, yeah, come on)
Make me your radio (aha)
And turn me up when you feel low (turn it up)
This melody was meant for you
Just sing along to my stereo

♪♫•*¨*•.¸¸♥
; ¸¸.•*¨*•♫♪ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♪♫•*¨*•.¸¸♥ ¸¸.•*¨*•♫♪

The last song is “Wing$” by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=
gAg3uMlNyHA

The song has a kind of poetic beatnik feel to it. It’s a story of his childhood and how his desire for Nike shoes changed him. It’s a story of consumerism and childhood dreams and how those dreams get dashed.

It makes me cry nearly every time, especially when the children’s choir chimes in:

I want to fly
Can you take me far away?
Give me a star to reach for
Tell me what it takes
And I'll go so high
I'll go so high
My feet won't touch the ground
I stitch my wings
And pull the strings
I bought these dreams
That all fall down

So why would I include it in a blog about more fun? Because the words genuinely move me every time and I wanted to share. Because sharing things that move us is a wonderful thing. Because in order to know what’s fun, or pleasurable, sometimes we need some contrast to compare it with.

I'm always lookin' for new music so let me know what moves you!!

I love Bowling for Soup! Their song Stacy's Mom - I change it to Sydney's Mom (DD's name is Sydney) and she just rolls her eyes at me. Makes me happy!
