I went to the doctor's office a few weeks ago for my normal 2-year check-up, and was disappointed to see that the goals I had set for myself after my previous appointment didn't really seem to come to fruition. I had gained significant weight, my blood pressure was borderline, and my cholesterol was a little high.
Grasping at straws I asked the doctor to check my thyroid--my Mom has issues, and her Mom before her, so I was thinking I could perhaps blame this on something outside my control. I know, I know, you should never wish for health issues, I think it was more wishing for something else to be able to point the finger at instead of my own lack of discipline and dedication to getting well.
Having said all of that, and having been a Spark member for 4 years now, I figure it is about time I started doing something a little different...so I am working on becoming more immersed in the Spark community, hoping it provides me with inspiration and support to really make a difference in my life this time. One of the first ways I am doing that is joining the Dazzling Diamonds Biggest Loser team for their Spring into Action challenge. Already, I can feel my energy shifting as I focus on ways to make better overall decisions for myself and my team. With that being said, here are my goals for this challenge:
I will increase my physical activity to include at least 30 minutes of activity (cardio or strength training) at least 4-5 days each week.
I will decrease my visits to the very convenient and very local "fast food" area near my office and pack my lunch at least 3 times each week.
I will increase my sleep time from 5-6 hours per night to 7-8 hours per night in order to be more rested and ready to face the day.
I will make better food choices and opt for a piece of fruit or veggie, and plan healthier meals for during the week to minimize last minute take out opt-outs.
I will reaffirm with myself on a DAILY basis that I can make these changes and make a difference in how I feel overall.
