Day 904... second attempt at a rest day

Sunday, March 16, 2014

I ended up walking over 12 miles yesterday, so I can't call it a rest day. Oh well. I decided to try again today, and barely squeaked in under 10 miles, so I will call this a successful attempt. I got a lot of reading in, while I was avoiding exercise. Cooper didn't really like the lower mileage. But he is a spoiled puppy, and will just have to live with it for the day.

I have to go for more blood work tomorrow. Sigh. I also have to drop a bill off at the doctor's office for my dad. Then I am going to go for a good, long walk. I missed that long walk by myself the last two days, but my feet are feeling much better so it was probably a very good idea. I have such a hard time forcing myself to take "rest" days. I know they are good for me, and my body NEEDS them, but my brain wants me to move... a lot!

One nice benefit from walking so much is that I get to eat pretty much whatever I want. I still eat healthy food, I just eat more of it. And I can treat myself a little too. I still try and balance my nutrients (50% carbs, 20% protein, 30% fats), and some days I do a better job than others, but I make a decent effort at that balance on a daily basis.

I have been trying to increase my protein a little. Eating Greek yogurt for breakfast helps. I need to do a stock up on canned goods, but that will have to wait until next month. I have been thinking I should do a pantry clear out, where I eat primarily just what I have in the pantry. I have quite a bit of food that I haven't touched in months. I think it might be time to cook up what I have on hand. It means eating a lot of the same thing for several meals, but since I like most of what is in there it shouldn't be a hardship. LOL!! emoticon emoticon

I find I have to walk an average of 5 miles to get my 10K steps - so, on my rest days, I usually break my 10 K streaks. Sighl

We probably all need to do a pantry clear out!

Congrats on your "rest day." Your rest days are other people's tough workout days.

I haven't done a pantry clear out in a while but I should have one soon. Lots of beans in the cupbboard. I can cook them and then freeze.
