Out of My Element

Sunday, March 16, 2014

Being away from home was great. Temptations and old habits were disrupted.
My son was away on business. I got to visit with my wonderful DIL and play with my grandchildren. My 23 month old granddaughter has only two speeds, OFF and FAST, (Now I know the reason for menopause.) I got down on the floor and crawled around to be on her level. We read books, sang songs, went for walks. I could see her delight in splashing in puddles. (Mom took video of it for dad/)
As for my 10 week old grandson, his gummy grins were a delight to behold. It broke my heart when he frowned. That thirteen pounder really worked out my triceps. After awhile I could feel my arms strengthening.

My routine/lifestyle changed. They do not do coffee, so I was caffeine free and did not notice any withdrawal symptoms. No TV. I must confess I do like a good show and check the weather. But they check the weather on their smartphones before heading out. It was nice to see and experience a different way of doing things.

Being there I did not have nighttime eating issues. Perhaps because it was not my home and kitchen, but I did not feel the need to gnaw. I noticed my hunger when it occurred.

All this was quite refreshing and showed me that there are many changes that I still can make. I'm going to move forward as I do not want to be the old grandma I'd prefer to be the fun grandma.

It was nice and refreshing as we don't know how much we can do until our environment and situations make us change! It sounds like a great vacation with fellowship and time well spent with the family! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

So glad you had a great trip. Grandchildren are so much fun. You had your work out in and found other ways to keep your days and evenings. I like they have NO TV. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

You sound like the absolute dream MIL, fitting in and praising different ways of doing things, helping and getting right into it!!

How I wish I'd had a MIL like you when my kids were little (or even the help from time to time of a mother, actually!!)

I'll do things differently if (and when) I have the chance!!
