It was a crisp 30-something degrees this morning as I met my daughter in the city for the St. Patrick's Day 5K. First run of the season.
I got there way too early hoping to get free on-street parking..... In Chicago! Bah ha! I constantly amuse myself. After winding through several blocks, I finally broke down and parked in the $20 zoo parking lot nearby.
We had a fun warmup with the DJ and then it was time to line up for our first race in 4 months. Mud, puddles, ice patches, a few hard snow mounds, a tightly packed group taking off. That was the first quarter mile.
When the route took us along Lake Michigan, I was mesmerized by the morning sun hitting the blue water. Then the wind. OOOF!! I kept telling myself to keep running because it would be too hard to start running against the wind.
My endurance left a little to be desired but my legs felt strong. Thank you Coach Nicole and fitnessblender.com! I slowed down to a walk just before the 2 1/2 mile mile mark. I thought 'that's fine, I'll power through to the finish line after I catch my breath'.
Well I didn't exactly power through, but I made it with a time of 34:24, placing 15 out of 50 in my age group. My Irish eyes have been smiling!
So enjoy Peter O'Toole and Ed Sullivan.....
Oh and I finished day 15 of the Spark Streak Into Spring Challenge with Spark Crunchless Ab video.
I hope everyone is having a great weekend!
