trying out a new car

Friday, March 14, 2014

Leg feels better today, had a bath with epsom salts... a few little twinges...

I don't like the idea of a vehicle not being dependable, and so I worry about getting a used one. I have never in my whole life bought a new car, so this is it. We went and test drove 2 today, one guy said we could take it home tonite so we did. It's a Hyundai Elantra GL, which means it is fully loaded, and did I ever enjoy the heated seats tonite...

Went to Knitting Club but only one 10 y.o. there, so we visited and I got her started on knitting a chair bootie... Then I was coming home and I called my neighbor and asked if she wanted to go for a drive... she was in her p'j's I said that's ok I'll put the seat heat on, so we went for a drive, all the way into town and around... I never do that, but when it's on someone else's dime for gas I took advantage, and I do have to test drive it. Then when I got here I asked DAve if he wanted to go out for a drive and it was already 10pm, so we went out and got a Subway sub. .. Cool, we haven't done that in decades.... This car seems lighted better inside and I didn't mind driving at nite at all. The sales guy said there is supposed to be a sale the last week on Mar, so I hope we can wait till then to buy.

ONly one of the guys even responded to my email, and we didnt' get too see him yet. He emailed me back tonite... I'll have to email him and see if they give you the vehicle overnite too, that's nice treat, and you do seriously get to try it the way you would drive it, ie backing up etc... it's supposed to be 54 mi/gal ... so only downside is it will cost about $300 a month... but gotta do what you gotta do... will have to check insurance costs, gas should be cheaper, but maybe I will drive a lot more then too...

Good luck with test driving and car selecting! Sounds like the one you have now is pretty nice! It's good to keep them overnight & check everything out!! emoticon

It also has a great warranty doesn't it? Isn't it 10 years? You can't go wrong with that.

I'm glad your leg is better.

How cool that they let you take the car overnight! They certainly wouldn't trust anyone to do that in Detroit! Hey, people here can't even get out of their cars to get gas sometimes without someone hijacking their cars! There was another one this week with a 4-year-old still in the back seat.

For $300 a month, it better get great gas mileage! I've only had one new car in my life. It was small, a stick shift (which I had to learn how to drive after I bought it) and it did get great gas mileage. But that was the time where my girls were about 11 and 13, so I put a lot of miles on the car a week getting them to and from everywhere. I remember complaining about the gas prices: a gallon went for about $1.30. I could put $5.00 in and go over 200 miles. Last year, the price was over $4.00 a gallon. It went down to about $3.20 and now it's back to about $3.70. The oil companies sure are creative as to why the prices are what they are.

Happy car hunting! Happy St. Patrick's Day.
