It's superintendent's conference day.
We started with breakfast in the big gym at 8. Well, my body is accustomed to rising earlier and breakfasting earlier (and I have to take a couple of meds first thing, with food). So I breakfasted at home after 20 minutes on my bike, around 6:40. At the gym, I indulged in some not-from-concentrate orange juice. I focused on mingling - mainly with a teacher whom I'd met while proctoring, who is originally from the Dominican republic. So we chatted in Spanish and English, and want to keep in touch because eventually he, too, would like to go to Peru.
Then we broke for the first session - I opted to go to the one titled Too Important to Fail, about how to reach African-American males in a different way, and the video was quite good, and the discussion also. Glad i went. An author was mentioned whose books have characters with whom the black male youth can identify - so important in order to encourage and cultivate a love for reading. literacy is so fundamental!
Then I went to another room, where a lot of exercise equipment had apparently been moved. I was delighted to know that the weight room was open DURING LUNCH! I learned to use one for triceps, one for biceps, and one for the upper thighs. I used each for 3 reps of 15, and then moved on to the treadmill, for 15 minutes. I'm thinking this will be my stop for Mon's, Wed's, and Fri's. I also chatted a bit with the instructor. Definitely a worthwhile workshop!
So, since I finished a bit early, I popped over to the library to log these exercises in my fitness tracker. And now I'm going to another workshop - this one is on Microsoft Office, focusing on Excel. Afterwards it's signing up for one of 15 book clubs. I already made my selection - just have to pick up the book. Yay! A good day!
