Excuses - SparkCoach Blog

Spark Coach is dealing with exercise excuses today and we are supposed to blog about our excuses for skipping exercise and our plan to counter those excuses.

Excuses 1 - I'm Tired! Honestly, I am tired at the end of the day. However, I'm not so tired that I won't watch TV shows before going to bed. If I want to watch episodes of something, I need to do it on my treadmill! One episode usually equals 42-45 minutes on the treadmill.

Excuse 2 - I don't have time today. If my day is really that busy (sometimes it is), then I can fit in a short 10 minute SP exercise video. There are tons on the site and they are free!

Those are my two excuses for not exercising. They come up often, but I am now going to bust them!

I really like the first thing in the morning idea. I'd hate it, but it would effectively get rid of the all-day guilt of not doing it at all. Thinking short-term discomfort vs all-day burden....it's a no-brainer. Thanks!!

Very true! Excuses are so much easier than doing something. emoticon

Walking the treadmill while watching tv works great for me, it not only gets in the exercise but stops the snacking I used to do while watching.

It really is easy to use excuses to skip our exercise, but when you become aware that you are doing it then you can make a plan to fix the problem. My plan is to try and do my exercise early in the morning so nothing can get in the way. When that doesn't work I commit to doing 30 minutes before cooking our supper because I know that once I eat I'm done for the day! That being said….some days the best of plans fail. When that happens I either make that day my weekly rest day or add some extra exercise to the next day!

You need to know yourself. I know that if I exercise at night then I will probably not do it. Other things will always get in the way. So I get up at the horrible hour of 4am so that I can exercise before work.

I hate every second of it but feel great when I'm done. Then I don't have to worry about it for the rest of the day. I know I've already accomplished something.

Great excuses that I've used many times over the years. Over and over and over again.

emoticon I also have found that identifying all of my excuses has been helpful. I've got an intricate web of excuses but they really do not stand up to careful scrutiny!
