Cat ate the pill! Don't tell him it was in the tuna juice this morning. Shhh!!!

Wednesday, March 12, 2014

The night before, I put the crushed pill in the tuna juice. So it was not at all grainy. He would not take the cold juice, so I microwaved it just to warm. He licked it all up!

But I can't open a can of tuna daily! What a pain in the neck doing this.

I wonder if that would work with Cuddles. I see that someone told you to not microwave the tuna juice with the pill in it. What if you just warmed the tuna juice and then added the crushed pill when it was lukewarm?

Want to come give Abbie her pills-she has to have one every 8 hrs for 7 days!! She is like your cat-hates pills! I poke them down her throat and pray she doesn't hide it and spit it out later (been known to do that!)

emoticon Your blog gave me a smile, reminded me of a little dog we had that would not take her heart worm pills. We tried everything, and when we'd cut that pill all up tiny, tiny and put it in her canned food in her dish, she would eat all the canned food and lo and behold, the tiny bits of pill would still be in her dish! How she managed that, I don't know but we sure had a time finding a way to get it into her.

Thank you for sharing, this really made me smile and congrats on finding a way to do it!

Fantastic!!!!! I give my cat a teaspoon of canned Salmon, one in the morning and one at night. He's on a special diet because of crystals in his urine, so he didn't use to get any treats. Two years ago. we found out that he has 2 huge tumours in his tummy. They thought it was cancerous. After much deliberation I took him off all medication after about two months of treatment ($$$$$$$) and after playing with his food because at first we couldn't get him to eat, I finally put him back on his special diet and that's when the salmon started up.

I would recommend NOT microwaving it. Some medications are ineffective if they're heated up like that. Better to leave it out on the counter for a half hour and let it warm up. Also, have you tried putting it into some canned food that has a lot of gravy? My cat LOVES the new breakfast-style canned food that has the cheesy gravy. If you can crush the pill then let it soak in the gravy, it might work similarily. (I would've tried it with Tane, but I don't have the strength to crush up the pills & I was able to get him to swallow them whole after a few tries.)

Have you tried the pill pockets? Our vet also has some of the meds in a cream, you put it on their paw and they lick it off. Worth asking if the one your cat is on has it available. Only way I can get meds down either of mine. They don't like the pill pockets.
