One cake doth not a lent promise break

Wednesday, March 12, 2014

My very kind colleague arrived today during the last period of the day with a cup of coffee and a cake for me. It was a plain sponge without any frosting or chocolate or anything. Dear reader, I ate that cake and I don't regret it. I don't feel like I've completely messed up my lent promise to avoid sugary things - only broken it once and not too badly. I will continue to avoid these things until Easter and not give up.

I think sometimes you have to give yourself a break. You can't be perfect 100% of every single day and to expect it is unrealistic. You can strive for that perfection though and, in striving, you will make lots of excellent progress. An act of kindness like my friend at work's should also be appreciated for what it is - a thoughtful gesture. I know she's also dieting, I know she is often very strong and a good example to me at saying no to these things. However, this is a stressful time at work and we're all under pressure. Her cake wasn't just a cake - it was a wee edible hug.

sounds like a very good excuse to me emoticon I am still hanging in there, 8 days and counting, no candy, sweets or snacks, not sure I can succeed but, like you, I will pick myself up and continue. good luck
