Sherry and I Skyped for two hours last night. I got to talk to my Baby Z and see how big that baby is getting - bigger that the picture already. She is now 6 months one week. We got to talk about all sorts of having baby stuff. Many of the things were those that moms learn the hard way and get to tell their girls the easy ways to get through it.
Sherry said she didn't want everybody to come see the baby the day the baby was born. She said they could come the second day. I remembered feeling like I'd been beat up the second day. I suggested waiting a few days. The baby won't go anywhere and will still be adorable. (But, then, I am the grandma - I know the baby is already adorable from the ultrasounds. In many of the pictures, this baby is posing. At the second ultrasound, the baby was waving to us - no lie!)
She found a doula that will help her. I wish I had heard of one when I was pregnant. She's finally feeling the baby give her some pretty good kicks. The baby has long legs like Aunty Sarah. She actually gave me a kick one night with her heel that woke me up out of a sound sleep. The next morning, I had a bruise on the outside. Sarah will be 34 on April 18. I still have a little brown mark on my stomach from where she kicked me.
It's something that right after my pregnancies, my mind just automatically pushed a lot of the pregnancy memories into the back part of my mind. Watching Sherry, those memories came out of the file cabinets so easily. Men would never be able to do this. The human race would die out.
Countdown is beginning. May 3 is the shower - 7 weeks. Six weeks after that.......
