Interesting study on Coconut Oil

Sunday, March 09, 2014

I've heard a lot of hoopla about coconut oil recently, and came across this article. I think I'll check into this a little more.

How very strange - I walked into the health food shop today, to get some good quality fruit teas, and there staring me in the face were jars of coconut oil on a BOGOF! So, it was too good an offer to miss so I bought one and, of course, got the second. If it proves to be unhelpful to the weightloss, no matter - amongst a very long list of other uses, it can be used directly onto your skin as a moisturiser, a hair treatment, or even as an alternative to WD40!

More anon….

Hope you are hanging on in there….

    Hi Boo.....

Hmmmmm (also)........
Read the article with some interest. I always thought that coconut oil, like palm oil, is one of the highly saturated oils and to be avoided. Am I wrong?? I'll do more reading.
But I believe the article also says a minimum of 2 tablespoons of coconut oil a day is necessary for weight control. That's way more than I use - I try to get in about 1-2 tsp of olive oil per day. Living on 1200-1300 calories daily, I would find 2 tbsp of any oil 'too expensive' for me.

Hope all is well on your end.....I'll write a long note tomorrow.....(bad few days.......)
Rod's surgery is coming up, right?? We'll 'talk'.......

Love and hugs.

Hmm. How very interesting - I will do some more research too.

The only thing I have any issue with doesn't really relate to coconut oil or any other oil - it's the old chestnut which you yourself know is one of my whinges just now… I'll quote from the article - and a shed load of others which we have all read over the years:

" If your body expends more energy (calories) than it takes in, then you will lose fat."

I am definitely working hard with exercise and gardening as well as taking in low calories, albeit healthy ones. I don't snack, I eat three meals a day (mostly, I have to miss lunch sometimes owing to pressures of commitments) and I track EVERYTHING. There is no way that I am taking in more calories (averaging 950-1000, albeit a healthy balance) than I'm expending with the exercise (oh the sweat, dear girl, the manly sweat!) and just keeping my body going. The scales have not budged for 2 weeks plus and I am getting bored with the phrase, or versions of it, in the quote! It isn't always true, it ISN"T!!!

I know you'll talk about muscle weighing more than fat, I'm ready for it! I also apologise as I have digressed. The coconut oil thing is definitely really interesting - maybe it could be the key to speeding up my metabolism…...Just have to see if it fits in with my leptin regime!

Excellent, m'dear - thank you.
