Commercialized Yoga - Lament on Creative Time LOST - A Non-Snowbird's Return to the Fold ...

Sunday, March 09, 2014

I am actually planning to do yoga in .... wait for it ... an environment outside of these four walls/ availing myself of a live, brick-and-mortar yoga instructional venue ... after months and months ... and months of tundra living (brought to you with Mother Nature's love ... by, polar vortex and steeply-graded hills to shopping and public transportation--I do not drive anymore and own no car) ... such plans long being overdue ... my only opportunity would be today.

Seems like the studio decided to have just one yoga class on the roster each week.

No pretensions as to offering a "restorative style" yoga ... they will go back to the kind that attracted me to these (actually, ANY at this point in recent time) classes there ...

My job is intending to go South (literally) ... and I have had a job shift and had to put my creativity in my own comprehensive practice creations [including philosophy - I did get up a real head of steam on creating a physical hatha-flow/pilates infused (and with copious amounts of breathwork and chanting) practice up until this point ..] ON HOLD. More hours, more expected (unremunerated) before-time and after 5:00 time, work projects double ... company so small they don't have to pay overtime. My co-worker is feeling it too. NO .. . THE OTHER SHOE HAS NOT DROPPED... YET. BUT WE BOTH KNOW WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN ... although it is still a tiny bit too early to definitively tell ...

HOWEVER, work-wise, I am taking this as totally a learning opportunity .. (more on that later)

South as in traditionally New South (not South Florida, unfortunately; where I've a year-round full time work track record in my YOUTH) - where that industry's action is. Probably not be invited to relocate (shoestring operation - and I knew my job was not "secure" OVER 4 years ago!
I will be out of a job and cannot afford to outright retire ...)

Anyway, back to yoga: . I still have a half dozen discounted class pack classes left (great also for those Florida-bounded snowbirds .this studio owner KNOWS his particular market's relocational habits and made a GENEROUS expiration date class pack for all... )

I have not been SO avaricious for this yoga teacher's PILATES knowledge that I risked broken bones amongst unlucky weekend snow days and/or too much too do on weekend days so that I might get to work on time & in one piece on otherwise a snow day ... until it is no more, this is a full time job and I"M pushing 60 and diabetic - having taken NO chances in rough weather, thankyouverymuch ....

    Hi Tina,

Just getting around to looking at this today. Sorry things have been tough for you. I think the threat of impending doom can be worse than when it actually happens.

I hope you enjoy your yoga and Pilates classes. I would like to find a Zumba class near me that has hours I can come. I really like working out early in hte morning around 6:30 to 7:00 am.

Joanne
