Slow Cooker

Thursday, March 06, 2014

Used my slow cooker yesterday to make a beef stew recipe I found in one of the cookbooks I borrowed. I added some extra veggies to it. The recipe itself didn't have enough veggies. The recipe called for cloves and I put some in and I didn't like it so next time I'm not going to add the cloves. I need to clean out the fridge and when I do I am going to hand wash a couple of left over containers and freeze a lot of the stew. We'd never be able to eat all of the stew before it went bed. I love being able to make something like soup and be able to freeze at least half of it for another meal. I have a feeling that when Elijah and I move out I'll need a separate deep freezer just to put left overs in and that I'll need a lot of left over containers. When Elijah and I do move out I'll be able to better plan and follow meal plans and just make what him and I want and not have to worry about what anybody else wants. We are going grocery shopping next weekend. I am slowly but surely typing out the recipes from the cookbook. I may have to renew it again. I like grocery shopping because we get to get food but on the other hand I hate putting groceries away and I hate waiting in line. We are going to need some stew meat. We had 4 packages and I used two in the minestrone soup and the other two in the beef stew. We haven't bought any in a while so it'll be time to get some more anyways. I think I am going to hold off on the soups for a while. At least until we eat what's in the freezer.

Yesterday I didn't go to the fitness center because Elijah decided he was going to take 15 minutes to get ready for a walk in the afternoon and we got home after mom did and I still had to eat and by the time I was done eating it was already 5:20 and too late by mom's standards because then it'll be between 6:30-7:00 by the time I got home and that would take away time from her spending in her room and we couldn't have that now could we? Of course not. I slept until almost 6 this morning. I am thinking that we are going on a walk a little bit earlier this afternoon. We have been turning off the TV at 1 for a week and a half now and it's great. I love it. Mom won another DVD for me off of eBay. It's the Biggest Loser boot camp DVD and I cannot wait til it gets here. I love the boot camp DVD. Mom ordered me a cell phone case off of eBay. It's 6:40 and the stupid garbage truck is here making a crap load of noise as usual. I am hoping it doesn't wake Elijah up. One of these days I am going to get on the website and complain about the time of day it gets here. Elijah doesn't need to be up this early in the mornings. Nor do I want him up this early in the mornings. One of the things I look forward to is peace and quiet and me time in the mornings. At night I'm too tired to stay up late.

I think today is the day I take down the decorations from Elijah's birthday party that was last month. I just haven't felt like doing it. It should only take like 5 minutes to do. All there is is a few balloons and streamers and a sign. I think I took down mom's birthday party decorations after a few days. It'll be nice to have the dining room back to normal again. I might take them down before Elijah wakes up and see if he notices. I'll throw away the streamers. Might save the banner. I'll keep the balloons so he could play with them. I got 4 of my shows to watch. I record the new episodes of: My 600 Pound life, Law and Order: SVU, The Biggest Loser, Extreme Weight Loss, and 19 Kids and Counting. I'll look at the guide and see what looks interesting and I'll record it. Most of the shows on the DVR is Elijah's shows. Once I get a job I am going to get cable in my room and a DVR and start recording my shows for like my days off and so I can keep shows longer and keep an entire series if I wanted to. I am also going to make a list of the movies that are on the DVR in the living room and buy the DVDs and erase them off of the DVR for more space. I'll look on eBay if I can't find them in the store. Once the movies are deleted we'll have more space for something else. When I get cable and a DVR in my bedroom I'm not going to be recording Elijah's shows in there. I am also thinking about upgrading my DVD player to a blue ray player and getting Netflix. Once I get a job I'll be saving money for a new computer.

I use my slow cooker often, it is the best way to always have a healthy meal on hand. Usually is enough for leftovers too.

I used to have a crock pot and I got rid of it. My hubby likes so much Caribbean food that does not use a crock pot. He is from Jamaica. I am from Texas. Every once in a while I miss a good slow cooked roast!!!!

I love my crockpots. Yes, that is plural! I use them for main dishes, side dishes, desserts and even making my herbal tinctures!

Sounds like you have a plan for the future. It's always good to have a plan to look forward to! Good on freezing healthy soups...it's so wonderful to just defrost a meal instead of having to cook one when you are tired after a long day at work.

Keep up the good work my friend! emoticon
