I am so proud of myself. After lots of searching I got rid of a Trojan.

Sunday, March 02, 2014

I have had problems off and on since the beginning of the month. I always assume it's my fault but not this time.
I called our son he was about to go somewhere so I asked him to call for a chat.
In the meantime Saturday morning my computer was pretty useless. I tried to contact Microsoft CHAT but I could not get the site to open. It kept telling me I had a Trojan, Malware and Fraud. Then a popup said it would fix it and it said DONE in an option box.

I clicked on it and another pop-up flashed on the screen it was Microsoft saying they did not trust the site and it was not recognized by them. I did notice there was a very long name on the Popup so I backed off and left it alone.
I kept seeing SURFACE was very active across the bottom of the screen I assumed it was updating and when it does it goes much slower.

Another message said to clean the computer if I did not do it the computer would crash. I saw the place to "CLEAN COMPUTER" I pressed it and up came that very long name again.

I shut down fast. I went to Spark web search and Put in the SURFACE 2 name and asked how to clean. Then it sent me to Windows Defender and I followed the instruction's and hit the words "FULL SCAN" It warned it would take time so I asked DH to take me to do the grocery shopping.

I had to get out I was so anxious about what I had done.

On our return it was all shut down. After putting groceries away I just had to start the computer. It came up with details and said it was all clean. What a relief.

I am hoping to be able to get back to my organizing and being able to Spark faster. I will never type faster but sitting waiting for the screens to move was really getting to me.

I had to re-read about the SURFACE 2 because I had read it and it said it had no need for any other antivirus in fact if I wanted to add Norton I would have to disable the windows firewall.
"NOT RECOMMENDED" in bold letters so I decided to leave it be.

I have a dear friend who will be 90 tomorrow so I was hoping to send her flowers.
Now I can do that and I know how happy she will be getting them from DH and I on her birthday.

DH is finally realizing that it might be a while with our family living here with us. He had not thought it through.
Our son was approached for a job in Maine but that was 6 months ago. I am hoping they still want his expertise but it is in a rural area and our DGD is home schooled. So all that has to be taken in to consideration.

It is what it is and I am hoping I can try to add some apps to the computer. So far I can search and use spark but that takes up most of my day most of the time.

Our family is in Memphis tonight. Now it is time to look at the weather.

I am looking forward to walking the rail trail. I have put my volunteer work on hold since I needed to volunteer for my family at this time.
Spring should be here soon, it cannot come soon enough for most of us. Pat in Maine.

Pat - awesome job! Computers can be so intimidating but you struggled through and won the battle. Unfortunately, the war rages on.

Computers! They are wonderful when they are working correctly but my stress level goes off the charts when I begin to have problems.

You will ahve a wonderful time with your family.

Surface2 or any of the Surface products are for the very advanced and technically inclined. I'd never be able to use one. I miss my XP.

Pat, you must feel awesome ! It is so rewarding to fix problems on your own. Glad the kids will be there soon. More work but also more joy & memories. I too am ready fir spring and to be able to safely walk outside. I lose my balance sometimes, like my mom so I do not chance it in slippery weather. TC

Glad you were able to clean your computer on your own. Usually when you run a scan it cleans it, sometimes it shuts down at the end so that you have to reboot. Shutting down sometimes is good, as is rebooting.
I think we are all good and ready for spring, no matter where we live and how our winter was/is. Frankly it's been just plain wild, too wild for my tastes.
Well, they are close to me. Georgia isn't that far from Tennessee.
Love you, stay calm.

I am always so afraid of clicking on anything that pops up!! I had a couple of viruses on my old laptop which caused it to crash. And I believe the viruses came from our work server. My new laptop has lots of antivirus software on it which is great but makes it run a bit slower. That is fine by me!!

Your son and his family are certainly getting closer. At least he is behind all this foul weather. We are getting more snow but at least not as much as initially forecasted. But it is going to get really cold the next few days and I hope that is the last of it!! Next weekend temps are supposed to be in the 50s. emoticon Let's hope those temps are here to stay!!

emoticon for you, Pat. Great job in cleaning out your computer.

So far no snow, just looks vry icy out there. I'm listening to the weather now and their saying that the snow is coming. I'll just have to see what it looks like in the morning.

Wishing all the best to your son and his family. How are their travels going?

Well, it's after midnight and my eyes are really getting tired. Goodnight.

hugs....Mary Anne

I had the same problem. I did the scan and it was fine but it popped up again yesterday.I just turn off the computer and that seems to stop the crazy malware.

Have a good night! emoticon

Pat, sorry I didn't get to answer your blog yesterday. I had problems with my computer. A pop up came on with Microsoft in its name. Dumb me clicked on it then I couldn't do anything on my computer including getting rid of it. Went to our SIL's today and he took my computer back to the day before that happened and all is well now. How he did it I don't know even though I stood there watching. Glad you are getting your house done. Safe travel for your family. HUGS, Terry

Your family is probably about as close to me as they are going to get if they are in Memphis.

I am ready for Spring as well. We have had winter mix today. My hubby's work is canceled.
