As Lent is nearly upon us I have been toying with what to give up, what service to involve myself in, what I want to do for the 40 days.
With a newborn it will be quite difficult to make any kind of serious commitment to a specific community service, but I will do what I can.
As for what I'd like to give up? Last year was an epic fail. I didn't follow through with anything I attempted to give up. This year I really want to do better. I want to choose something that I can actually do, but something that at the same time will actually be a sacrifice.
I'm absolutely giving up french fries. They are my most favorite food, my biggest weakness, and what I eat most frequently. I'd like to try to widen my scope, though. I thought about giving up all junk food, all processed food, select foods. I'm not sure exactly what I'll do yet. But I know that it will involve cutting out things that are bad for me.
I figure this can work two ways. It can be a Lenten sacrifice and it can also help me kick start my weight loss goal.
Something additional I'm trying to work on is more home cooking. I'm thinking about giving up take out and going out to eat for Lent. Or maybe just limiting it severely.
I've been doing a lot of research recently on recipes I'd like to try, foods I think might be interesting to make, and ingredients to keep on hand for the easiest meal prep.
We'll see how well I do. If I have some success (and even if I don't) I'll post some pictures.
