hi everyone--janet asked for some pics of the slates I am working on--here are some--the pics are kind of blurry but you get the idea.
first--this is my worktable and the slate I am starting on. I use photos as reference esp. to help with the eye placement and the beak--two very critical things in making a bird look correct.
this is a roof slate from a batch that Marianne gave me. the shape is different from what I usually work on, so it led to a particular kind of composition:
the chickadee in this pic is a slate I started on last fall and haven't got around to finishing yet.
here is a tryptich--this will be framed with copper pipe. I want to get at least one more of these done before spring. I have a hummingbird framed and hanging over in the little house already.
and last are two others that are completed, just waiting for a coat of sealer.
I have an old orange piano in my work room, and the finished slates go on there until they are coated and wired and hung--I use either copper wire or leather straps to hang them with.
