The wagon

Friday, February 28, 2014

Most of the time I am 100% committed to living a very healthy lifestyle. I have no problem eating lots of fruits and veggies. I love salads and fruits as snacks. Unfortunately stress, anxiety, over-excitement, boredom, eating the same things over and over, etc. come into play and I am knocked right off the healthy lifestyle wagon. Processed foods fill my cart and empty calories try to fill my belly. Neither of these is ideal for my bank account or overall health.

I took the time to menu plan for the entire month of March. It did not take very long and I realized I have a ton of resources. Many of the recipes I found are new to me and some are things I really enjoy and just forgot about. I also found some fun new breakfast and snack ideas so that I don't get bored. I realized that when I get tired of eating the same thing over and over, cravings start to creep in. So if I can plan well enough ahead of time, perhaps I can eliminate the cravings. Sounds like a fun experiment to me:)
We shall see how I do this month. Last month was not terrible, but it was not great either. I found myself straying quite a bit from the plan. Time to get back on track. I also know this about myself, once I indulge in whatever I am craving, the craving goes away. I am just hoping this time around to eliminate the cravings.

Are you an all or nothing type person? Anyone else struggle with balance?

Great job getting the menu planned out for March. One of my favorite things is finding ingredients I already have and then using them. I definitely relate about falling off the wagon - just keep getting back on.

I can squat on a balance board - does that count:-)

Good luck with your meal plan. I think it is a great idea.

Balance???? What's that???? I struggle with it all the time because it's so much easier to do the "all" or the "nothing" - I usually find that balance dictates something in the middle...a challenge always. Eliminate cravings??? Well, if you are successful, please let me know...I think it's more like dealing with the cravings and deciding whether they are a warning that your body really needs something you're (or me) not giving it....or if it's just a gut kick emotional comfort food response and it can be either. And then, for me the other thing is even with new ideas, I sometimes just don't want to do the work of cooking -- I don't want to think about food for that meal and I certainly don't want to cook...Aaaagh.
