My own path (2014 - Blog #58)

Thursday, February 27, 2014

"Unless it's your path, it's pointless to follow. But if it is your path, then, alas, it's pointless to follow any other." Harvey Arden

When I once considered doing an event like a 5k, I think my biggest worry besides how I would use a restroom along the way, was not finishing and looking like a fool. Neither of these concerns have since stopped me. I learned on my very first shamrock run..my first 5k ever, that the path I was on was simply said -my own-. I do not think anyone pays much attention to who is running, who is slowing, who is finishing... Each person on a race seems to be in his or her own bubble focused on his or her own path.

You know, what is so amazing about realizing you are meant to be on your own path is the fact that relief and comfort accompany you along that path. You arrive to yourself and allow yourself to fit into the footprints you have left for yourself.

Today, when I go out for an event, I am grateful that I really do enjoy the whole experience. I revel in the preparation. I take time to soak in the sights along the way. I am thankful for all the volunteers who make the events possible. I look at other participants and wonder about their path but I do not wish to be them anymore. I am only me and I think I have found my path.

Is your own path becoming clearer?

This is a freeing realization-being free to set and follow our own paths.
Enjoy your weekend.

I can't tell you how many times I assure people that they are competing against themselves. It's only the folks right out front who are competing against someone else. Of course, for me, competing against myself is highly motivating.

There is a certain "centeredness" that comes from finding and following our unique paths...agreed!

Love the different perspective on the mountain. :)
Great quote. Since we are all similar yet different we all have different paths. It is like tweaking a recipe for your taste. (sorry about the food analogy, it is the best I could come up with) Following another's path may not be a good fit. I'm glad you found your path.

Love that quote. Good perspective. What is wrong with the Spark picture uploading mechanism. I agree with Alida, though, Crop it so that is extremely portrait or landscape. Pictures I upload to FB without problem will wind up sideways on SP.

Yes, I do follow my own path. And, it follows me. LOL

If you crop the picture on your iPad, even just a little, it stops it appearing upside down. (It took me such a long time to find that out, LOL).

It's very freeing to learn to do your own thing without feeling self-conscious. emoticon emoticon

    Well said!

I used to work at a gym, and watched the patrons to see who was paying attention to who. No one paid any attention to anyone else. I wish more people would know that & not feel self-conscious about going to the gym.

And I love your photo!
