Conversation and Cormorant

Thursday, February 27, 2014

Husband's gloom & doom weather report this morning: "It's cold and breezy, and it's supposed to rain."

Sableness: "Oh good!"

Husband: "That doesn't sound like 'Oh good' to me."

Sableness: "I love walking on cold windy days, and I don't mind a little rain."

Husband: (smiling and shaking head)

And this is what I saw on today's walk to--where else?--the Speckled Trout marina, a lone cormorant on a piling drying his wings. These birds actually swim underwater for their fish. They bob up briefly for air and dive again, staying underwater for up to 70 seconds before needing to dry their wings which are not water-proof.
