My daughter auditioned for Mini Pop Kids yesterday.
It was an open audition call so basically a cattle call and everyone with a child seemed to be there! Out of the 3 kids I have between the aged of 9-15 only on wanted to audition - no surprise there. Kayla is the one that wants to be an actor!
We had to pre-register to be guaranteed an audition - which I did for Kayla at the beginning of February - but the day of was still first come first serve, so when we got there at 6am we had to line up to sign-in. Kayla got number 127.
We also ran into another little girl, Poppy, that we knew that was Kayla's age - Kayla is 10 - and Poppy's mother knew someone there too with her little girl - Raven. The girls had a great time playing together and practicing their songs all morning.
From left to right is Raven, Poppy & Kayla.
They all had numbers within the same block- 120-130 so they were all called at the same time to go into the audition room, which was great because no parents were allowed in the audition room, so they at least had friends support while auditioning.
Kayla and Poppy came out first after their group had auditioned but Raven was asked to stay back - that meant she was getting a call back for that same day - they liked her.
Kayla was upset because she thought that that was it for her - which it might be - but while the girls were auditioning one of the mini pop staff told me that there were too many kids their today to do all the call backs today so we are supposed to keep an eye on our emails the next few weeks for call back notices - NO, this is not a guarantee that Kayla will be called, but after 2 weeks it will not sting so hard not to get a call back.
So after I explained to Kayla that she still had a chance she was feeling a bit better.
This was her first audition like this and she worked very hard over the last month to get over her stage freight. I had brought her to neighbours houses to have her sing for them, I had stopped strangers at my son's dodge ball class to have her sing for them - all to get her used to singing in front of people so all I wanted her to do was sing - and she did that!
Hopefully she gets a call back and I have my fingers crossed for that, but even if she did not it was a good experience for her and next time will be easier - she is 10 and can audition until she is 15!
I hope that Raven gets through this round or call backs, it would be pretty cool for Kayla to know someone that got into the Mini Pop Kids...and who knows, maybe next time Kayla auditions she gets it and can sing right along side Raven again.
Good luck Raven and good luck to Poppy and Kayla - you could still get call backs!
