Picture, Senior Games, and Confession

Thursday, February 27, 2014

Guess I wouldn't have needed to pose with my Princess HM medal after all. Sarah found another picture of me to include, see lower right:

I finished number 27 in my age group out of 283 runners. Out of the 19,800 finishers I came in about number 3,600. I know, though, that many took their time and stopped for pictures and more entertainment than I did.

I still have a head cold and it may be aggravated with allergy. We have so many (some quite beautiful) things in bloom. There certainly is a lot of pollen around. I slept well last night, glad I could run yesterday, and don't feel as tired today.

So for now we are focused on Senior Games, and as usual, taking care of grandkids. I am so proud of hubby earning second place in checkers. Other than playing occasionally at Cracker Barrel, I don't think he's played in 30 years. He tried to practice on the computer, but couldn't find a checkers program he liked. Hope he does well at chess. Chess he has played and has practiced quite a bit. He's doing Sudoku, too. I'd be doing that one, but I do have kids that day. We are both doing the Bag (corn bags) Toss. He made us a set of boards to practice. It's fun, but I am very inconsistent. I'll sink one and then miss the board entirely!!

I kind of feel like I'm cheating and should confess. I changed my ticker weight from 126 to 132. Last year was my year to try to achieve 126. I got there several times, but have trouble maintaining there. It is my favorite weight, but it seems like 132 is much easier for me to maintain. This is my year to make peace with the scale. I've weighed exactly 131.4 the last 4 days in a row. There may be a time I want that middle 2 back, but for now that is good enough!!

The body will tell you what the weight should be and 132 sounds perfect for you as you don't have a problem maintaining it. You look great at whatever weight!

Good for you! hAPPY Weight should be comfortable and easy to maintain. Even though mentally we'd like to see a certain number, what really matters is a HEALTHY lifestyle and ENJOYing your food and activity--which you ARE!

I'm thinking maybe "confession" is not the right term? Confession suggests admission of wrongdoing or failure. There is no failure here: I think it's a real breakthrough for you. You're committing to health rather than setting an arbitrary target that doesn't accord with optimal nutrition, optimal exercise and optimal opportunity to focus energy on other things you enjoy -- the things you CAN enjoy because you are already at what has evolved overtime demonstrably to be your optimal weight. So: you're acknowledging your optimal weight is -- where you are at.

Awesome stats on the Princess HM!!! I hope you start to feel better soon! As for changing your ticker, I feel like you eventually have a natural, healthy maintenance weight. You may like having the 2 in the middle, but is the stress worth it? Only you know the answer to that question. I don't think that using 132 as your goal weight is cheating. You are using your body's natural maintenance number. That is a smart decision. If you drop below that number, it is a nice little gift.

emoticon Great finish!! I certainly would be distracted by everything going on around me in that huge a crowd and all the neat stuff to look at along the route! You did well to focus on the business at hand!
I am happy to know you are making peace with the scale! That is fantastic and far less stress!
Good luck with the games!

emoticon on making peace with the scale. The arc of sustainable (and real) change is longer than day to day or even week to week. As long as you keep up with consistent cardio AND weight training, your body will continue to progress.

    Congrats on the HM!

Judith Beck makes the distinction between your "lowest achievable weight" and your "lowest SUSTAINABLE weight." I suspect that most of us have to come to terms with the latter if we aren't going to make ourselves crazier than we already are! Love that you will make peace with the scale.

Sometimes finding "natural" range might take a while? Anyway, I'm having similar issues, but I think going up from 122 to 125 is not such a horrible thing. Leaving my ticker at 122 for now, but also not stressing about it.

Good enough is good enough... hope that cold continues its EXIT path from your life!

Confession is good for the soul, but you didn't have to. Making peace with the scale is the best!! I look forward to that time for me. (although even though I'm losing excruciatingly slowly, I'm more at peace with the scale than in previous times.) Good luck to hubs in chess and both in the toss.
