Did you stop to think about...

Wednesday, February 26, 2014

Isn't strange that it has taken me all these year to realize how important it is to be a stay-at-home-mom? For year I bought into the you need to keep up your career and don't waste your degree on being a stay-at- home mom, you'll become fat and boring.

Well, time and being a stay-at-mom sure has helped me to see the truth. Being with your child is a challenge. Trust me, you do not get bored, you have to always to ready for a test. Yes, that small child may look innocent, but that child will test you. If you are not careful, that same small child will push buttons you did not know that you had! Your stay-at-home mom job will teach you self-control, patience, observation and listening skills that you would never learn on a job.

Another skill you learn is multi-tasking. You have to get the laundry done, clean the house, get dinner, entertain your child and be ready at a seconds notice to protect your child from getting hurt. Where else can you learn thinking several tasks at one minute and having such fast, sharp reactions? No other job taught me this.

This skill is one that I never thought I would learn--working on getting things all in place and within one second having it look like you never did a thing. Oh that small, little child can make a mess without really trying. After awhile you just say, "my house is clean enough to look live in and not dirty enough to be condemned by the board of health." Things are no longer in their proper place, they are places you do not know where they are. And it could weeks or months before you can find something.

If you did not like driving you will now. You will spend time going to play dates, parties and the zoo. No longer will you be a stay-in-the-house mom. You will know where every play ground is, movie theater, bouncing house, and amusement park within one hundred miles of our home and never get lost. You now have another new skill, taxi cab driver.

The TV is now on the moment my little one gets up. We must watch Dora and all the other morning children shows. Like clock work I know when to change a channel. Before I did not use my TV. Now you learned how to be an entertainment manager.

Also, you will not become aware of the color of clothes you. Instead of buying light colored tops, you will be choosing dark ones. No matter how hard you try not to get dirty, you do. Something gets spilled or two little dirty hands just happen to touch you. Another new skill is learned, look spotless without being spotless. Now tell me where else can you learn this skill?

On top of all these newly acquired skills, you are the home manager as well. How can get be bored? When do you have time to eat? You mind is always going and you must be fit to take off at a moments notice. Being-a-stay-at-home mom is a very busy job and I am honored to be one.
