So, I've been training for a 5k which is on March 23rd. I started Jan. 25. Training has been rough because I've been so out of shape. But I've been doing good all things considered. We don't have a lot of money so I had to start off with some $20 running shoes from Big 5. Which, of course have given me really no support at all but I've made do. We got our tax return done just recently though so I bought a pair of mid range running shoes today. Just walking in them around the store I could really notice the difference! I'm hoping they'll help because my calves and shins have been hurting the last few days.
This month I challenged myself to run/walk 50 miles in February and it looks like I'll probably hit 40. With my training I've been doing: Mon., Wed., and Fri., as my running days. With Fri. being my long day which I run at the park in the city. They have a 1.5 mile loop trail. Tue. and Thu. I walk and the weekend I rest. My timing for my long days has been terrible. But I've cut off 5 minutes off my time each week. It's not much, but it shows me that I'm improving even if just a little. I'm starting to get the jitters about the 5k and am hoping I can jog/run most of it, at the moment I can't and I'm only 4 weeks out. But thankfully I chose a 5k that is a run/walk race purposely so it would less intimidating.
