Our house is rarely devoid of fresh fruits and vegetables. I have always loved my fruits and vegetables but since I started paying attention to the rainbow on my plate, this has become even more so.
At 1AM this morning, I finished off the last of the fresh pineapple in the fridge, the big bowl on the coffee table had only 3 cuties left in it. My shopping list on the counter had been growing steadily and today, since we needed to drive to Green Bay, I planned to remedy my fresh fruit and vegetable supply situation.
It's comical how both my husband and I have grown so accustomed to having plenty of sweet fresh fruit at hand. We approach the store with a predictable pattern, sweeping through the entire store, checking out everything as we go and following the list for those things we know we need. When we get to the produce section we usually split up to get all the things we want and often something a bit different too depending on the season. So today, while my husband picked up bananas and a pineapple, I picked up strawberries, blueberries, mushrooms, carrots, tomatoes a watermelon & some wonderful little cantaloupe, add some sugar peas, some more cuties of course and we were ready to head to the meat and bakery departments. Now, we had a lot to pick up today, including a case of wine, but by the time we got to the check out, our cart looked pretty much the way it usually does these days, loaded to the brim with delights of color and taste.
It makes me smile when I see a cart full of goodness. When a check out clerk comments on the substance of my cart, I am always reminded that this is not what they see all day every day, and I'm glad that I can brighten the clerk's day as well as my own.
It's so easy to make me smile!
