You Asked: Can Yoga Help Me Lose Weight? - Best SPBlog Ever

Sunday, February 23, 2014

I just read the best Yoga blog here on SparkPeople:

www.sparkpeople.com/blog
/blog.asp?post=you_asked_c
an_yoga_help_me_lose_weight

It's really encouraging for me. I've always "somehow known" that yoga was good for me when I did it, but it's too easy for me to get discouraged and quit because of naysayers...

(later - like a few hours after I started this)... I thought I had already sent this blog in. Just now found out that a former family doctor we had, and member of our local congregation, died last night in a plane crash. He was a pilot and I had forgotten that he was a pilot, if I had ever known that? And would be logical for him to be a pilot because both he and his doctor dad and doctor brother were used to practicing out in rural communities where there were hardly any doctors. He had moved out to far western Kansas, up near Colorado border, and there he was only one of three doctors. So that's a huge loss for their county.

And I think there was something else I was going to upload here as a blog, different topic. I've already forgotten. Weird, because I've been getting texts from my dad who is struggling with his own memory, wondering what the details were of his marriage to my mom some 54 years ago (I was just barely born 9 months later...). So that's sad for my husband and me, as he remembers when his father was declining so much mentally that he couldn't even remember and figure out where in town they were, when my husband took his dad out for a ride around town to run some errands, and it's the town that his parents had lived in some 53 years at that time, and his dad asked him "where are we now?" - right in the heart of downtown, some of the most recognizable and iconic buildings of the town. My husband was a bit freaked by that surreal experience.

So I'll ship this. If I have any other profound thought or memories, I can add them later...

Have a great beginning to a new week today!! It's gorgeous here at home, still a bit chilly but no snowflakes in sight!!

Thanks for the link. Reading it next. Yoga has been "calling" to me for awhile now. I've been slow to start.
My mom, too, has Alzheimer's but it's still in the early stages. She is in complete denial and there is little we can do without making her angry. We are waiting for that phone call when she gets lost on the road since she likes to travel. And she is obsessed with picking up cans on the roadsides despite the dangers. Her dad got the same obsession when he had Alzheimer's.
Sorry to hear about your former family doctor.

It is sad and scary when ones we love still look the same to us, but the person living in their body is a relative stranger. That was my mom, her last years were like that for me.

I will go check out your Yoga connection.
