Fun day, exercise involved!

Saturday, February 22, 2014

Today was quite possibly the most beautiful day I've seen in Columbus in 6 months. It was absolutely lovely outside. In the 50s, sunny, and just a gentle breeze. Perfect.

We spent the first majority of the day asleep and unaware of the loveliness outside. Dh has been staying up late, and I'm either lazy or still not recovered from the trip. In any case, it was nearly 1 when we woke up. I was hungry, and this time definitely lazy, so I grabbed a leftover breadstick and called it breakfast.

After I made my "morning" call to my grandmother, I checked the weather and saw how beautiful it was outside. I asked dh if he would be interested in going to the zoo, and he said yes. We were planning to go while he was on vacation, but then we went to Virginia and I didn't think we'd get to go. Fortunately the weather gods were in a good mood today and gave us a perfect day for it.

Unfortunately most of the animals {or their caretakers} did not think it was such a perfect day. Not many of them were out. We toured through the Africa area first and saw a few varieties of monkey-like animals out playing, and that was cool. Then we had lunch at the food court. I had intended to have a moderately-healthy sub, but the place that makes the subs was closed. So I had a burger and a few fries. After we left there we went into the North American area and saw more animals there. Not surprising, since it's clearly a much more acceptable climate to North American animals than African ones in February. But... the thing I was most excited to see was the polar bears, and none were out. That was poopy. Still, we had a nice time walking around enjoying the weather and seeing the animals that were out.

The best part, though, was getting some exercise. It felt so great to move a little bit. We walked for about half an hour before we ate, and then another hour after we ate. I consider an hour and a half of movement quite an accomplishment. As expected, I was in a lot of pain by the time we got back to the vehicle, but once I sat down for a minute or two, the pain was mostly gone and I felt great.

We came home and relaxed for a while, then I made dinner. Relatively healthy dinner, actually. Baked pork chops, some baked beans and mashed potatoes. It needed a LOT more veggies, but compared to the crap I've been eating, that was pretty healthy.

Now I'm gonna go rummage in the kitchen and see what kind of meals I can put together for the next several days. Hope everyone is having a good weekend!

So good to see you back and getting out and exercising!!! We had a lovely day here to outside Philadelphia!! We went over to New Jersey to get younger daughter finally settled in her apartment, hanging curtain rods and curtains and pictures. The curtain rods for her front window was not wide enough and neither were the curtains so a trip to Walmart solved that. We were able to get a rod wide enough and some lace panels to add to the width of the curtains so that worked out well. We were there a long time since hubby had to drill into the walls to put in the brackets and we did not get home until nearly 11. It is a 2 hour drive back and forth. We did enjoy a break sitting in the lovely weather on her patio!! Bummer that more snow is forecast for us later this week!! So tired of snow and so ready for Spring and some outdoor walking!!

The 3 Amigos are doing well. Still some skirmishes between the shepherd and mastiff, more on the shepherd's part. The mastiff is just a big old baby and so laid back he just walks away so all is going well so far!! The mastiff is only 3 and still very playful and luckily our sheepdog while old still thinks he is a puppy so the mastiff has someone to play with in the yard. Our shepherd who is the oldest and has never shown any interest in playing at all just stays in when both of them are out there. The hardest thing is during the day when I am working they are all in my office, laying around my chair so it makes it hard when I have to get up and stepping over all of them. emoticon

So glad that you are back and that you had a nice visit with your grandmother!! Missed you lots!!

emoticon Cat, I just realized you had been back for a few days! I am glad for you that you enjoyed your vacation, though the driving was a bit stressful. I do not drive myself due to nerves.

emoticon no Polar emoticon greeted you today at the zoo!

Being a nearby neighbor here in SW PA I too was happy to see a emoticon filled day!

It was an awesome day for putting on emoticon and taking a walk!
