1 Year Quit anniversary and 98 pounds down

Voted Popular Blog Post: View All Popular Posts

Saturday, February 22, 2014

Thought I’d better post a little update! Today is the one year anniversary of me quitting smoking!!! I made it!!! One whole year!!!! I’m living proof you don’t have to gain weight when you quit smoking. I’ve lost 98 pounds since last year.

It wasn’t easy at first. But I knew I had to cut out the cigarettes and the over eating. When I first started I had the help of an addictions counselor. I highly recommend that route…I was able to get help free through my county mental health department. Of course Spark People was always by my side as well.

A great deal has been going on in my life lately – if you’ve been following my blogs you know that my Daddy, who is in remission from cancer,…fell and broke his back a few weeks ago. He is now in a nursing home in rehab….I am hoping he will be able to come home soon but the doctors are saying that it might be that he can never come home. I hope this is not the case… I miss him being home so much. I do go sit with him every day though.

It would have been easy for me to use Daddy as an excuse to either start over eating or smoking again. But I care too much about myself now to do that. I’ve worked too hard to get to where I am to turn back now.

I have not been as active in Spark People since Daddy fell as I like to be…but there simply are not enough hours in the day right now. I hope to get back to the level I once was, but please bear with me.

I really do appreciate all the well wishes and goodies that you all send…they mean a great deal to me even though I don’t have time to respond to them, and I’d like to thank you in advance for reading my blog today - be assured I see every single post!

I’m off for now – my dear hubby James is sick today - has a cold or something…please keep him in your thoughts as well as Daddy!

Hope you each have a wonderful day! Hugs to all!

Congrats for both quitting you smoking and overeating. Way to go on realizing your are worth not falling back!

I hope your dad's back heals and that he can come home. But even if he does have to stay in the nursing facility, know it's for his best -also though, may he continue to heal and is able to overcome his injury.

WOW!!!! that is awesome. you are in the minority for not gaining wt and to lose and that much just so inspirational and commendable!!! I have never smoked but watched my mum die from lung cancer and ask for a cig when she could barely move I think that was what was the worst for her in hosp. she couldn't get out to smoke.
HUGS and CONGRATS!!!

It is wonderful that you quit smoking. As someone with COPD from my parents smoking I can say the people your around appreciate it. Hopefully you will avoid COPD. It's a miserable disease.

Congratulations on your weight loss. An amazing thing to reduce weight while stopping smoking. I truly applaud you.
May God's blessings be with you, your hubby and your Dad.

Ah that is so wonderful! And Ditto, Ditto, Ditto all the positive feedback you have received. I've never smoked anything, so I can't say "oh ya, I know exactly what you went through!" because you and I would both know I was feeding you a line of hogswallop!! But I have had friends and family who have struggled for years with both quitting smoking and losing weight. One family member even had one of the bariatric surgeries (lap band? Stapling? Roux NY or whatever that French process is)... And she keeps quitting and then six months or a couple years later, start smoking again. So I worry about her... But you are an inspiration I can she with her, should she ever get to where she is finally finally done trying to do it by herself, her way.

I think you need a fabulous SparkGoodie!! Hmmmm

Super congrats on managing to lose both a lot of weight and give up a nasty habit. I quit smoking 18+ years ago, but getting older has not made staying in shape easier. So my weight battle goes on. Keep moving forward while you deal with your father's condition. I wish you continued success!

Congratulations !!! I quit 30 years ago on a Tuesday, I started at the age of 14 & quit at the age of 33. I never looked back so happy I did. Praying for a full recovery for your Dad, that is so hard to go through as a daughter missing him being at home, plus your Dad also no doubt wanting to come home also. That i so rewarding to you not going back to over eating 7 smoking because of the added stress in your life. Sometime people like us when we are put thought stre it mke us a stronger person, so I am so proud of you . I went through a lot ,but never picked a cigarette up again. so you can be proud and pleased with yourself.plus you are showing the resat of us , yes you have stress, but you did not go back to the bad habits!!!
Take care
Judy

Congratulations to you and you are the ONLY person I have ever heard of that quit smoking and lost weight!!!!! That is so amazing! I will be quit 4 years in June but I sure gained and wanted to eat everything in sight. One time I tried to quit with tootsie pops and did for 90 days and got 11 cavities. If you can do this-and you did-YOU CAN DO ANYTHING GIRL !!! Never ever sell yourself short again about anything. I am sorry about your father and I think Livelygirl2 had some very good suggestions for you concerning him. God bless you and your father. emoticon emoticon
