Empty nest!

Saturday, February 22, 2014

Yes it has finally happened! Our youngest adult child is moving out of the family home.

She is renting a lovely 3 bedroom house with her partner. She is sooooo happy! emoticon

We went to Bunnings and Woolworth's to buy the basics for setting up a home, brought back memories when I did that in 1973 to set up our first home. emoticon . They have an ESKY for a 'fridge and no washing machine yet.

I have been so grateful to have had her living with us as she looked after the house and our fur babies while we were away overseas.

She has moved to a nearby suburb, so I am sure I will see her frequently. She is leaving her 3 cats here as her partner has a dog. I am happy to have them as I feel that they belong here with us. We live in a quiet cul-de-sac and it is local traffic only, so it is a safe place for them to be.

I will miss her, but it will be so nice for hubby and I to have our home to ourselves. emoticon

Also it will be less tempting with the food as we eat differently and a lot less, so not as tempted to "join in" on the eating fest.

It is hubby's 61st birthday tomorrow and we are going back to the same park for a late afternoon picnic with our family.

So on that note I am closing off and am looking forward to being able to get up early and get rowing without worrying if I am disturbing anyone. emoticon

I know my Mom and Dad had the last one leave the nest about 6 years ago, after never having the house to themselves for 50 years! It still took them awhile to adjust, but I know they were happy to have the house finally to themselves! emoticon

What a change for you. I'm glad you're happy for her. I'm sure she is happy to be on her own, (well sort of). You have been such a supportive Mom to her and I'm sure she shall forever remember that.

My gosh! I couldn't believe I read the store name right. Woolworth's? We haven't had one in my province for years and years.

Have a great time with you and your husband's empty nest!

Nice that she will still be nearby. I live 15 miles from my mom and 10 from my sister; and am so happy they are close.

    Happy Birthday to your hubby.

Wow, you have a lot going on, all of it wonderful. I will have an empty nest in the fall when my youngest goes off to college. I just have no idea how that will feel, but I'll find out!! Enjoy your birthday celebration with hubby.

My only child, my DS, left home Last Thursday and
he has moved to Brisbane so it is only an hour away.
I miss him already, but I know that he needs his own
space. Glad to hear that your daughter is also close
to you. Have a wonderful Sunday. emoticon

It is a bittersweet feeling for sure. My girls are both away at college right now and while the house sometimes seems empty without them, there is a definite freedom with no one but my husband and I and the little dog living here!
