altimeter personal record attempt...part 2

Friday, February 21, 2014

The conclusion on whether I achieved 300 flights in one day.

*Spoiler Alert*

I'm summarizing part 1&2 of my personal altimeter record for those that can't access SP videos on their devices.

We took a trip to New Orleans and arrived at a high rise hotel for our stay (49 flights of rooms, 51 to the roof). I thought it was a good time to attempt 300 flights of stairs in one previous record being 200 flights. I made a valiant effort but came up short. By 144 flights, lol. It was very doable for the 1st 100 flights. It was challenging but doable. I found I could do about 36 flights of stairs in 15 minutes. After 100? Meh. I was having to stop every one and half flights to catch my breath. All told? I got 156 flights which was no small feat. So I'm proud of myself. Besides, it leaves me another day to challenge myself again. Maybe 2. Or 3. I might drag this one out a bit. Because the next challenge after 300? 400. Oy.

Also? I was in New Orleans for business and pleasure. So, after I got 156 flights of stairs I took myself on a self-guided walking tour and then I went to the convention I was there for. That day afforded me 20,000+ steps so no worries...I definitely got my exercise in.

The week after, we headed out to Orlando. Again, for work but this time only the husband had to work. The boy and I were there to play. We went to Hollywood Studios and Epcot. This trip was good for 20,000+ steps a day too. Good, good times.

While we we were gone, we got hit by quite a bit of snow (by our regional standards). My pet sitter had to 4 wheel drive it to my house but she shared some pics with me that I got to enjoy while lounging by the pool at the resort, lol. We did get to enjoy one day of snow. When we left, we had to high-tail it out of town because the 2nd wave of weather brought ice all along our preferred route to Orlando. We had to go the long way around with the ice following us about 50 miles back.

Today my goal is 5000 steps and 30 minutes of yoga. My quads are very tender from Wednesday's trail workout. I've done very well keeping my momentum from vacation with 10,000 steps a day. But today I will conserve. For why? Tomorrow is 24 miles of the Silver Comet Trail. Sa-zah! I might have a record week.

Before leaving for sunnier outlooks.

While we were relishing sunnier outlooks.

What an awesome way to attempt your flights. If you broke it up into parts during the day, maybe?

You are very positive and have great goals. I remember my trainer warning me not to increase my goals more than 10%... the 10% rule. Which means if you succeeded in 10 of something and you become able to achieve that easily then you increase that by 10% which is only 1 more! 200 flights would mean 20 more. Still, I can't believe you did as many stairs as you did! Wow! If it is something you love or are really motivated to be able to do then that's all that matters. emoticon

    emoticon wow!!

I empathize when it comes to those little grudge matches with desserts/sweets. Very annoying that something that "simple" can make such a difference.

emoticon absolutely true...I used to snore loud enough to wake myself up startled!

thanks for vlogging.

What a great idea: stair hopping! Lol. I'm going to try it when I find a place with stairs. As for me, I live in S.E. Florida. I hike regularly, but if I had to hike in the snow, I would in a heartbeat! I love snow in the wild.

Have a great day and thanks for the blog

I would love a trip to somewhere warm after this crazy winter!

Good job on getting all those flights of stairs done! My quads hurt just thinking about it!
