Where is My Resolve?

When times get tough I fall back on to old patterns. They are comfortable, familiar, self-soothing.
What happened to all the progress, changes that I have made? Too new to be ingrained perhaps?
JUST_TRI_IT says it well: "Every opportunity is a choice. Every choice is an opportunity."

Now that I am on the mend and potential crisis with my son was actually nonexistent. It is time for me to get my act back together.

I need to unlearn those old behaviors and forge new defaults.

    Thanks for the link -- it was a good blog!

It is hard to forge new defaults, and maybe we never will. But you are recognizing your descent into old habits so much after than you used to; me also...maybe that's the best we can hope for? Maybe instead of spending months in a food coma now it's just days or hours. I'm just wondering if what you are doing isn't "good enough!"

    Read her blog. It is really so true! So often we make things harder then they have to be and by learning the proper way to do things, our life is simplified. BUT like anything that requires "unlearning" bad habits, it takes time. THAT'S where it gets difficult. But if we give ourselves that time to learn, we'll keep moving forward.

Such a great analogy, and we've all gotta learn how to properly use those gears! Together, though, we CAN!

    I'm at my learning edge of this too. Beck's 'muscle' concept helps me the most in that the more we exercise the new patterns the more they will be the dominant pattern we fall into. Just coming off of a family celebration weekend, I'm also aware that there may always be some times in the ebb and flow of life -- planned and unplanned -- that the other patterns will emerge and that's all part of it too. That is, learning to ebb and flow with it and not get overly self-judgmental but simply get back to doing what works. From here I see your progress! emoticon

    I think the lifelong behaviors will be replaced by the changes - in time. It really does take time and patience for the new patterns to take over. I've been here at SP for 5 years and expect that a lifetime of eating will be changed in a mere 5 years? Nope. I think patience is the hardest part of this journey. Have a good day, Nancy.

  Thanks so much for sharing. I to need to switch gears. We are important and we need to realize How important. Healthy Life Style is the gear I'm working on instead of Diet.
