How Amazing Am I?!

Wednesday, February 19, 2014

Someone shared this with me... and no, it's not my photo and I did not write this.
But...I absolutely love what this woman wrote. I think she handled it very well.

A while back, at the entrance of a gym, there was a picture of a very thin and beautiful woman. The caption was "This summer, do you want to be a mermaid or a whale?"

The story goes, a woman (of clothing size unknown...) answered the following way:

"Dear people, whales are always surrounded by friends (dolphins, seals, curious humans), they are sexually active and raise their offspring with great tenderness.

They entertain like crazy with dolphins and eat lots of prawns. They swim all day and travel to fantastic places like Patagonia, the Barents Sea or the coral reefs of Polynesia.

They sing incredibly well and sometimes even are on cds. They are impressive and dearly loved animals, which everyone defend and admires.

Mermaids do not exist. But if they existed, they would line up to see a psychologist because of a problem of split personality: woman or fish?

They would have no sex life and could not bear children.

Yes, they would be lovely, but lonely and sad.

And, who wants a girl that smells like fish anyway?

Without a doubt, I'd rather be a whale.

At a time when the media tells us that only thin is beautiful, I prefer to eat ice cream with my kids, to have dinner with my husband, to eat and drink and have fun with my friends.

We women, we gain weight because we accumulate so much wisdom and knowledge that there isn't enough space in our heads, and it spreads all over our bodies.

We are not fat, we are greatly cultivated.

Every time I see my curves in the mirror, I tell myself: "How amazing am I ?! "

Yeah, there's also that creepy thing where mermaids draw sailors in with their singing so that they crash and die on the rocks...

I'm not sure, but the model in the picture may be Mia Tyler. She's Steven Tyler's (Aerosmith) daughter and sister to Liv Tyler. She's a beautiful woman. I love the comments made about the mermaid and whale!! Sometimes size has nothing to do with health and I'm glad some models realize this.

Thanks for the blog!

P.S. You are amazing!!! emoticon

There is a wonderful series called How to Look Good Naked that is available on Hulu. The host of the show Gok Wan is an amazing man who basically set out to make these women really see their bodies and appreciate them. The women are all different shapes and sizes and his goal for each episode is to make them see how beautiful and amazing they really are. The photo reminded me of what he does because he has the women do photo shoots and they look amazing.

I love the photo of the woman in the chair - I think she is far sexier than any skinny runway model!

There is so much literature to back up being thin and be in shape. But I have to track back and look myself in the mirror and I have to love myself and the wisdom I had accumulated along my life. I don't have a curvaceous body, my skin is a little saggy, my clothes tend to be conservative, I can't flaunt it anymore, but I am very happy with myself. I don't look like a whale, maybe close to a dolphin, but when I look at the mirror, I see myself and that what's count. Kudos for this inspiring post.
