The Ring and Me

Wednesday, February 19, 2014

My aunt who passed away from cancer almost 7 years ago, gave me this ring when I was much younger. At the time, I was almost 300lbs and could barely fit it in on my pinky let alone any other finger. By the time I lost weight, she was already gone and didnít see my progress. She was my best friend, my mentor and means the world to me.

Today, it fits wonderfully and is even a little big!

My aunt was the first person to put me on diets as a kid because she saw how morbidly obese I had become. At the time, it hurt, but now that Iím an adult I see what she was trying to do. She wanted to help me, she saw my potential. In a time in my life where Iíve gained some of the weight I originally lost, this non scale victory was a welcome sight.

I think sheíd be proud of me today.

    The ring is beautiful!

My aunt was also the first person to "motivate" me (put me on a diet) when I was 12, then again when I was 18. I hated the way she did it, but I was so much happier when I was thin. Aunts can be amazing!

Seeing you with that ring on your finger would have made her so proud!

As a parent I can tell you that it is difficult to watch children go through their difficult periods and not follow much needed instruction to change destructive behavior. However, the joy that overwhelms me when my adult children show that they "get it" (i.e. daughter graduates college 10 years after H.S.) is truly encouraging. MissB I can only imagine how proud your aunt would be to see you today. You are an inspiration.
