Still working toward balance

Wednesday, February 19, 2014

Literal/physical balance and metaphorical/psychological balance have been a challenge for me for as long as I can remember. (I can't ride a bike, balance poses in yoga are difficult, and I am completely crazy.)

I went a bit off the rails again yesterday with chocolate, exactly one week after my last gorge. It felt less frantic, but still desperate (emotionally).

This morning my stomach growled and I realized I haven't felt PHYSICALLY hungry in a while - like several days. I have been eating according to appetite rather than hunger.

On a more positive note, I noticed a visible change in my abs this morning. I haven't lost any weight in the last 2 weeks, so this is a shift in the balance of muscle and fat. THANK GOODNESS FOR YOGA.

If you need me, I'll be over here reminding myself that hunger won't kill me, but I don't need to starve myself either.

Then I'm going to practice my tree pose.

I can't remember the last time I was actually hungry. I'm working on controlling my appetite also. Yoga sounds like a good distraction.

Tree pose can be difficult. I'm better on one foot vs. the other for some reason. I struggle with those poses as well. I'm going to keep at it to get better, glad you are too. Good luck!

Big ups for recognizing the problem and doing something about it. I am a big believer that yoga opens the path to balance and inner peace. These two are the first step in maintaining a healthy life.

Wow, you just inspired me do something that I have never attempted to do - a tree pose. Heck, I didn't even know what a tree pose was (thanks for the illustration). Anyway, I did it .... for less than a second (really) and then my tree fell over.
Ahhhh, but don't ya know - I was just bending with the wind. And ain't bendin' with the wind better than breakin' into?

I think we all gotta bend a little now and then to actually know our strength and fortitude. After all, these are the things that define endurance and, more importantly, here, resilience.

Now I'm gonna go practice that tree pose some more.

I'm struggling with balance a bit myself these days. And I totally had a chocolate binge last night too. We'll get through this!

I think balance is an illusion - sold to us by people who want us to buy their book/dvd/yoga mat/life coach session.

I think pursuing peace, though, is always a good pursuit. Maybe we can't be perfectly balanced all the time, but perhaps the highs and lows won't swing us around so much.

BTW, I struggle with letting myself feel hunger too. I get totally freaked out.

I think you're doing great.

Balance is a toughie- everything is constantly changing, so I don't think it's anything we can ever master fully and then just like.. move on. Just like health & fitness, it's a lifelong path to walk.

Congrats on the positive changes you're seeing! I was actually just thinking yesterday about the fact that I've been eating according to schedule and not necessarily from hunger. Maybe I should try practicing my tree pose, too...

Keep at it! You're doing great, my friend.
