Snow Day; had to cancel oncologist appointment

Tuesday, February 18, 2014

I had a "snow day" of sorts today. We had 8 inches of snow overnight, and my friend Von who was going to drive me to the clinic today for my oncologist appointment and Zometa infusion, wasn't able to get her car out of the driveway, so she wasn't able to pick me up this morning. There wasn't enough time to arrange for another ride, so I called and rescheduled my appointment for next week.

Of course, this means living with the neck/shoulder pain another week before I can talk to my doctor about it, but since I woke up with a sinus headache that was being stubborn, it worked out just as well to stay home this morning. Rhonda was able to pick me up this afternoon to go grocery shopping, and by then, my headache was starting to go away. It was probably triggered in the first place by the weather system that dumped all the snow on us.

I was feeling very worn out by the time I got back home, but after sitting and resting for about an hour, I started feeling better. I'm glad to have the shopping out of the way for this week. At least it wasn't bitterly cold today, we made it up to 35F; tomorrow is supposed to be in the upper 20's, then we have rain, possibly freezing rain, coming for Thursday.

I've been on the Afinitor about 2 1/2 weeks now; still no mouth sores, so coating the pill with the marshmallow creme must be working! My chemo nurse told me last week that if you are going to get mouth sores with the Afinitor, it usually happens within the first 2 weeks. I've only been on the Aromasin 6 days so far; it's too soon to tell if I am going to have side effects from that, as the ones caused by that drug usually don't show up until you've been taking it awhile.

    Hi Shari,
I'm sorry to hear the neck and shoulder pain are still troubling you. I know how much this sort of situation can impact on one's daily life, so even though you needed to reschedule the oncology appointment, you did really well to get out to do your shopping. I hope the sinus headache - and the weather in your area - all settle down, and the neck and shoulder pain ease as well.
Stay warm if you can - sending prayers and warm thoughts your way.
Big hugs,
Nattacia

No mouth sores is a big plus!! I'm sorry you had to cancel appointment--I know you are eager to see the doctor. Hopefully, there will be no side effects from the Aromasin!!! Sure hope your weather is improving. We have had a beautiful week. Snow is melting fast and we've had highs in the 50s and we even hit 60!!!! Now when the cold and snow return it will be more depressing!

I am sorry top hear about all the pain you are in, or that the snow is so miserable. I just let it stay there, and on the third day start to worry. usually I am either shoveling, or someone comes by that I pay, who has a snow blower. When I get headaches which is rarely. it is usually allergies. As far as pain, I have had plenty since I was in a car accident, where my car was totaled. I found that if you do the omegas they really help with inflammation, help[ with belly fat also, and deliver lots of oxygen. These are salmon, sardines, olive oil, avocado, ground flax, 2 capsules of fish oil tablets daily, and a handful of almonds daily. Try to eat these about 4 times daily, at almost every meal.
Breakfast: cooked oats, with 1 tablesp. of ground flax & maybe some almonds
In between: yogurt with grd.flax or almonds
1 piece of toast with peanut butter
Lunch: a sandwich, wassa rye with avocado, or Philadelphia, salmon, onion, & tomato, or substitute smashed beans for salmon & make the rest the same a salad with the omegas & sliced almonds too
in between:?
dinner: ?
inbetween:? I hope this helps you, and I will pray for your healing too. eva

Sorry you had to cancel you appointment yesterday, but with the sinus headache, guess it was best. You are definately getting hit by a tough winter this year. Snow is nice but not when you have to shovel it, etc.
I am lucky I live in a warm state, but miss the change in seasons at times.
I hope you don't get any side effects from the medications. They can be rough and with you shoulder and neck pain, you don't need anything else to worry about.

Hope your week goes well and the snow, slows down too and spring come to you soon.

I'm sorry you had to postphone your oncology appointment. At least you got your grocery shopping done. That is a major accomplishment. Does Rhonda do her shopping too while you are getting yours done? I imagine that it's nice for you two to get to see each other even though you are busy shopping. She is a good friend.
Hugs,
Kay

Shari, You continue to amaze me with your inner strength and positive attitude. Hope your medicines do not cause your any side effects and work they way they should...you have enough to deal with without that.
We had a beautiful spring-like day with snow early, then lots of sunshine and a heat wave with a temperature of 40 degrees. Definitely felt like spring after all our severe winter weather.

Have a wonderful week...one day at a time.

Our weather has certainly been finicky lately! I'm sorry you had to reschedule, but in the long run, probably for the best.

Hope you continue to have no side affects, and more importantly, these two drugs work they way they are intended.
