Crafty Weekend With Pics!

Tuesday, February 18, 2014

This past weekend was my birthday weekend, and I had a pretty low-key but enjoyable weekend. I did things that I wanted to and things that I enjoy, and to me, that is a great weekend!

On Friday, I left work way early, and went to the gym to get in a birthday run. I had planned on doing 4 miles, but when I got to the gym I discovered that I never packed socks in my gym bag. So I ran 2 miles without socks, and that was so uncomfortable, so after 2 miles I threw in the towel and left. I hadnt really eaten a real lunch because I wanted to treat myself to something for dinner, but I really didnt know what I wanted, so I settled on something I never eat - a bacon cheeseburger and fries from Wendys. What a birthday dinner, right? haha It was delicious and worth the splurge. That night was also a crafting night, so after eating and showering, I was on my way out the door when my brother called me to wish me a happy birthday. I talked to him for about a half hour and it was good to catch up! Then I headed out to crafting! When I got there, they had a bunch of pizzas - they normally only have cupcakes, so I felt obligated to eat a slice of pizza since it was my birthday and all. And then I also ate a cupcake. It was delicious! I worked on crocheting leg warmers, but when I got half way done with the first one, I realized it wouldnt fit over my calf! So I had to start over again. I switched gears and made a card for my mom to mail her with her Disney bag tag. I think she will like it. I stayed at crafting until around 9pm and I was exhausted so I headed home. It was a really nice way to spend my birthday :)

On Saturday, I woke up and planned to go to yoga (I even pre-paid for the class!) but my stomach was NOT HAPPY with all of the stuff I ate the day before, so I skipped out on yoga. I took care of mailing some things. I even quickly sewed up a mini-pillow with some Disney fabric, and included it in the mail I was sending to my mom. It should arrive today so I hope she likes it! Then I headed up to Denver to go shopping at the Cherry Creek Shopping Center. I have to tell you, I was disappointed, and it was not worth the 1.5 hour drive. I usually shop at the Park Meadows Mall in Denver, but figured I would try something different, and it was a total bust. Most of the stores I couldnt even afford if I tried. And no one had spring clothes out, which is what I was looking for, for my trip to Disney this weekend. I did stop at Lush and pick up some deliciously smelling bath products. On my way back to Co Springs, I stopped at the Castle Rock outlets, and I did get a new pair of Coach sunglasses. The Coach outlet was having a 50% off regular priced merchandise sale, with an additional 10% off your entire purchase! I couldnt pass up $130 sunglasses for just$60! And Coach is my favorite. My last pair lasted me 4 years until I lost them :( When I got back to CO Springs, I stopped at Old Navy and finally got a few things for my trip. Perhaps I should have just gone there in the first place. Oh well. Old Navy has a bunch of natical themed stuff out right now, if you are into that, which I am! Anyway, by the time I got home, I was completely exhausted from my all day shopping trip. I watched some tv, read for a little bit, and then went to sleep.

On Sunday, I had planned to run, but wouldnt you know - my ipod had died on Saturday. It just couldnt wait one additional week :( Well, I couldnt possibly run without music, so I headed to the BX on base and purchased a cheap shuffle - not even in pink - to get me through. I prefer the shuffle when I run anyway since I can clip it to myself and I dont need all of my music - just a playlist. At some point I will probably invest in a larger storage capacity ipod, but I really dont use it aside from running and driving long distances, so no rush for now as long as I have my shuffle. I also stopped at the local mall that I cant stand, because the luggage store sells Vera Bradley, and I wanted to get a new cross-body purse, which I did. :) Then I headed home and spent the day crafting! I put the first season of Warehouse 13 that I have on dvd, on in my craft room, and got to work finishing up my duffle bag! It took quite a few hours, but I finally finished it Sunday evening! It came out fantastic! I hope it holds up well becuase I am planning to use it as my carry-on this weekend! This is what it looks like:

On Monday, I finally did make it to the gym to get in my 8 mile run - my last longish run before the Princess Half Marathon! I did it on the treadmill because my stomach was still upset and I didnt want to get stuck on my run desperately needing a bathroom. It ended up not being an issue, but better safe than out of luck! Mentally I struggled through this run. The gym tv in front of me was playing CNN and nothing interesting. My music was decent, but I couldnt focus. Physically I felt fine and finished faster than previous runs, with an avg pace of 11 min/mile. My pace has definitely been increasing with all of this treadmill running I've been doing - I usually run much slower on the treadmill than outside - so I am hoping this will translate to a faster pace outside, too!

After my run, I stopped at the grocery store, and then headed home where I did more crafting and laundry. I made a new case for my kindle. Its a bit larger than the kindle so you can fit more stuff in it, like the charger, the clip-on light, etc. It also has a front pocket. I am not great at zippers, but its decent.

And then I quickly sewed up a sunglasses case! My Coach sunglasses came with one of those bukly cases that take up a lot of room in your purse, so this one is smaller, but should still keep my sunglasses protected in my purse! It literally took about 10 minutes to make!

I then spent the evening watching tv and making my running tutu. I am not happy with how it came out, so I think I am going to redo it if I have time this week. It is not as full as I had wanted, and since I used the softer tulle, its not as puffy and moveable as the itchy kind of tulle is. So I am going to try it with the other kind of tulle and see if I like it better.

Overall, I am really happy to have spent SO MUCH time crafting this weekend. I got through almost the entire first season of Warehouse 13 while crafting :) I did make some great purchases this weekend despite the not-so-great trip to the mall in Denver. I got in an 8 mile run. I did all of my laundry. I am pretty much all packed for my trip to Florida this weekend. I didnt do any cooking, so that is the only downside, but I plan on whipping up something quick tonight before dance class.

This week as far as workouts go, I have two hours of dance classes tonight, short run tomorrow after work, and then an hour of dance class on Thursday night. I leave for Florida at 6am on Friday morning! I still need to make reservations for Buffy at boarding. I want to make a list of things I need to pack to make sure I dont forget anything, too.

Work looks like it will go quickly this week becuase I have a meeting this afternoon, a meeting tomorrow afternoon, and a meeting Friday morning. Hopefully it goes by fast - I cant wait to get Disney, even if rain is forecasted for everyday we will be there (30-40% chance each day!).

I saw that you put a little tag on your class case. You can put a clip on it so that you can clip it to what ever you want and that way you have it also handy to get. As for you not doing zippers to good have you tried the new type of velcro that they have it is made so that it will not catch fabrics and is allot easier to work with and can also be used instead of a zipper.
