Week 6 of Half Marathon Training

Tuesday, February 18, 2014

I am on week 6 of the Half Marathon Training Plan and I am still not on schedule. My running is sporadic because of the weather, all treadmills at the gym were out of order, and other commitments. However, the treadmills are now working and when I do get to the gym, I discover that I am able to run at a faster speed and for longer periods of time than I was able to do last year.

That has me encouraged and motivated to stick with it even though I am not doing the exact workout outlined in the plan. I have not yet registered for the half because the weather has been so cold and 4 years ago there was a snow/ice storm the day of the race. If that happens this year, I will most likely wimp out. Last year it snowed heavy about 2 days before race day. But the day of the race was perfect for running. I have til the end of the month before the price increases.

I only ran outside twice since January. The roads I run on are snow packed with ice underneath. When and if I do run outdoors, I use ice grippers. But snow gets packed between them and my shoe and it is like running with a stone in my shoe.

About a month ago, my daughter saw these huge wolf tracks in the woods on my running route and with so much snow and cold this year, that make me nervous. I still remember the time I was running at dusk and I turned around and saw a bear crossing the road.

I chuckle at that because there was another time I ventured to run in another direction and a dog came out barking and I called my hubby to come get me because there was a dog running in my direction. A pet scared me more than a wild animal.

I hope you have a wonderful day.

Way to stick with a training plan (even if it isn't what was planned). I ended up changing up my HM training this past weekend. I couldn't commit to running 5 days a week so I am using a 3 day plan which I have used in the past.

I live just outside of the city limits but we don't have to worry about bears and wolves. Deer and Turkeys are my biggest concern. Wild Turkeys can be mean!

I did a 7 mile run outside a couple weeks ago and used my winter spikes. They do get full of snow and make running interesting. In past years, I have felt my pace improved after the winter since I had less drag!

Keep it up with the training plan!
