This thing...

is EVIL!!!!!!!

Seriously, it kicks my butt! Every time! There is nothing that doesn't hurt when I'm done. Okay, maybe my right big toe is okay but, really, it took a sadist to some up with this thing.

With that being said, what does it say about me that I am now semi-obsessed with taming this monster? When I started at the beginning of January I could hardly finish seven minutes on it, barely got over 500 meters and thought I would die doing it.

I spent most of January on the elliptical, watching that darn rower out of the corner of my eye, certain it was coming for me. When February came around, I decided that it was time to take the bull by the horns (or the rowing machine by the little pull handle thingy-but that doesn't have the same ring to it).

I started the month doing 10 minutes on the rowing machine and finishing my cardio on the elliptical. About a week in I decided to start pushing my intensity and started doing some intervals on the darn thing. I worked up to being able to do around 20 minutes total with speed intervals of around 2:15/500 m and easier intervals of around 3:00/500 m.

Today, I wanted to go 25 minutes. My intervals have been improving and I wanted to get to 5000 meters. The interval speeds are also much improved- around 2:05 on the speed intervals and around 2:35 on the easy intervals. By the time I got done, I had done 5500 meters in just under 27 minutes and burned almost 300 calories. My overall average speed was 2:25 for the entire time. If anyone would have told me that I would've been able to improve my performance that much in that short a time I would've told them that they were crazy.

At this point, with every muscle in my body screaming at me, I am starting to think that *I* might be crazy, but no matter. Crazy or not, I am GOING to tame this thing!!!

    Woo hoo! You will conquer the beast! The rowing machine is my favorite pre-strength training warm-up. I love the fluidity of motion on a rowing machine. But I usually only do 10-15 minutes on it - hardly enough to tame it.
