In my life, I have not had to "diet" very often. I can remember three times. The first time was when I was 18 after living in Latin America for a year and I gained about 10-15 pounds. I "did" my first diet ever. I had no idea what I was doing and was not successful until I decided to stop dieting and start being more judicious about my food intake. Because i was naturally always moving around, i was lucky to not have to worry too much about exercise.
The second time was a few years ago (about 30 years later) -when I started with Spark. I had lost focus, was in a job that had horrendous hours and was so far away from anything healthy that my poor habits resulted in getting overweight this time by about 30 pounds. My success was a result of deciding to not to "diet" but to shift my thinking and actions. I decided to do a triathlon. I decided to lose weight. I decided to be judicious again about intake. I decided to blog. I decided that enough was enough.
And now my third time. Not my proudest moment simply because in my family we run small. We have fairly good metabolisms. But I had lost my focus again. Fortunately I had not lost my love for my running, walking, biking and swimming, but I had lost my focus on smart eating. And so I decided that enough was enough.
Wishing never gets me anywhere unless my next thought is how I will turn a wish into a reality. The moment I decide I get stubborn. And when I get stubborn about a goal, I take action and I focus. That's good. I can achieve what I decide I will achieve.
Yup.. DECIDING makes all the difference!
