Being Prepared

Friday, February 14, 2014

I am off to a pretty good start. I shopped for healthy foods two days ago, but after working all day, shopping, and putting things away the last thing I felt like doing was cook and prepare lunch for the next, I didn't. Thursday morning I got ready for work and than had to grab something on the go to take for lunch. Although I didn't buy any unhealthy foods this time, there is a partial box of Ritz Crackers in the pantry along with a huge container of peanut butter, so I bagged up 8 Ritz Crackers and a couple of tablespoons of peanut butter along with an orange to take to work with time for breakfast and ate before class. I got off work early and grabbed two crunchy tacos from Taco Bell and then had a can of soup and small salad for dinner last night. Considering that I was unprepared and feeling sick yesterday, I think I did pretty good. I was not hungry and I had just slightly over the lower end of my calorie goal for the day. I still didn't feel like cooking or preparing for work today so I bought one of those prepackaged salads at the grocery store and added some chicken to it along with some cucumbers and I am set for lunch today. This weekend I will be putting together enough salad to last all next week for my lunches, boiling eggs, baking a ham, and cooking some chicken breasts to go with my salads for work next week. Being prepared is essential for success when you are trying to eat healthy and have to work as well. I have not exercised yet, but I will. Right now I feel like I am coming down with something....I sure hope it is not the flu. :(

That is true, Woubbie. It takes constant planning and desicion making to stay on track and eat healthy, so that could wear a person down for sure. My main problem isn't tiring of planning to eat right, it is finding the time to prepare the food so that I always have healthy choices on hand to grab for lunch. Working two jobs and chasing after a 5 year old at my age take a toll. LOL

Happy Valentine's Day to you as well. Have a great weekend.

    Happy Valentine's Day!

Funny I just posted a comment about this on someone else's blog! Can I regift it to you? LOL!

The thing to watch out for is Decision Fatigue. You are constantly choosing to eat well and be healthier, but that takes planning and forethought, and sometimes it's tempting to just take a break from all these decisions and do 'whatever'! I think that's why it was easier for me to simply make some rules about what I eat so that I simply don't face those decisions anymore. Here's a great article about the concept:

Thank you ladies. I am working on it and just have to be sure and have everything ready to go before Monday rolls addition to my regular job I teach evening classes in cake decorating on Monday and Tuesday, sometimes on Saturdays as well. I kind of decided to start again right in the middle of the week, which was not ideal. :)

Planning ahead really is key, but congrats on doing your best to stay on track even on those "off" days.

It does suck when life interfers with your plans of getting healthy. On the days I work it always seems like there isn't enough time in a day to do everything you want to do, including cooking and exercising. I know you'll get there and it sounds like you're already making a plan to have things prepared for next time. You got this!
