We got snow! Two days of snow. Snow that sticks to the ground and hangs around all day kind of snow. The roads are covered with snow. We don't get that very often. They say that the Charlotte Douglas Airport measured 8 inches of snow. We're a bit further southeast than that. My ruler on the picnic table says 5.5 inches, but the wind has been blowing so perhaps we got more. This is the most snow I've seen since we moved here seven years ago. It will be gone tomorrow. The forecast was for temperatures in the 40's but now they're saying 39 degrees and rain, still that should get rid of any snow.
Unlike Atlanta, last time they forecast snow, school was cancelled around here. Then it didn't even snow until 4 pm. This time round they picked the kids up for school yesterday and then brought them home by 11 am. Not even enough time to count as a school day. Poor kids are going to have to make up 4 or 5 snow days for this year so far.
I've really enjoyed seeing the snow and, no, I didn't run to the store to buy bread! We're supposed to get an inch to an inch and a half of freezing rain tonight. Since the side roads don't get treated this could be a very dangerous night out on the roads. They're expecting power outages, too. I'm hoping people stay home and that there's less damage than anticipated.
I thought I saw a scarlet tanager at the birdfeeder this morning, but he was chased away by a bigger bird. I did get some pictures of the cardinals at the feeder later in the afternoon. I've noticed that the birds eat a lot more when it's cold. Does that apply to people, too or am I just looking for an excuse for eating more?
