Week 7 of 18 of Marathon training

Wednesday, February 12, 2014

Good morning,
So I'm in the middle of week 7 of training. I'm using Higdon's Novice 2 training schedule.
So far my long runs have looked like this.
8, 9, 6, 11, 12, 9
with weekly runs of 3, 5, 3 and 3, 6, 3

This week the weekly runs jump up to 4, 7, 4 and my long run on Saturday is 14 miles!

How is it going?
OK. I've missed 2 of the 6 mile runs the last two weeks. And just trying to squeeze in a couple of extra miles on the other short run days.

Mental Motivation may be an issue, but I'm feeling pretty good today. I have my 7 miles plotted out and visualized. It helps that the weather is a bit warmer than it has been so it actually temps me to go running.

I have been mentally preparing for Saturday's 14 miles and I think that helps a lot.
I have 2 virtual running partners. I run with them a couple of times a week and we discuss our long runs and text each other when we are about to start so we have accountability.. it really helps.

The body is feeling pretty good. My feet hurt starting at 7 miles or so but not so much that I can't continue.
I'm hoping the feet get more and more used to it as time goes by.

I was hoping to train at the 11 min/mile pace, and have been averaging 11:30 to 11:45 (on more hilly challenge routes). That is also crucial as my one previous 1/2 marathon I hadn't trained enough for hills and regretted it, so I'm building on that experience! No easy outs for me on my longer runs!

So that is my update on my first ever Marathon training.
