Sunshine and Cars

Tuesday, February 11, 2014

Sunshine today! It was glorious and I feel so much better. I actually checked the next 10 day forecast and - trumpets please - we are going to start getting warmer after today. 20 degrees expected tomorrow and a little nudge up each day until - more trumpets - 40 degrees by next Thursday, Feb 20. Oh my goodness. Just thinking about it puts a little skip in my step. This winter has worn me down like no other but I think we have finally crested and it will be a slow slide into spring.

Also today, DD has her evening class, I'm stepping away to an episode of Bob Newhart (again) and my DH phones. It is 6:30PM and he has been trying to get his car started since 5. Can I come and get him? Um, no I don't have a car remember. So I try my older daughter - she is closing at the pharmacy tonight and won't get out until 9PM. Yikes. So I call a nephew, who, for some reason, finds it funny that we are carless and his uncle is stranded out of town and wants to come home. I think it was the wine he had with dinner that was chuckling at me on the phone. Luckily DH called back at 6:45 and his car finally started and he was heading home. Then he said something about driving to work tomorrow and to make sure I had a car just in case. Seriously! He was planning on driving that car again? I wanted to go out car shopping last weekend (it has 280,000+ miles on it) but he is "confident I can get 5 more years out of it." Really? I don't think it has 5 more days left in it. So tomorrow he will work from home. Thursday and Friday I usually drive to school but he will drop me off and take my car and I can walk. Those are usually the hardest days for me to get my steps in but this week I will have the opportunity to walk home so it's a win-win for us (he gets car, I get steps). We will car shop this weekend instead. I wish someone was having a push-pull-drag sale nearby.

It's hard to be without a reliable car -- not something we're willing to put up with in this household, but I know people who get attached to their cars and it seems to be a point of pride to rack up the miles. Not all cars are up to the task, though, so it's best to know when to go car shopping. Good that it's win-win for you with the steps!

Oh gosh. I'm glad you are having warmer weather this week. So glad your hubby got his car working, eventually, too. I can't imagine having to go through that. I've relied heavily on public transportation here in NYC.

Enjoy your car shopping this weekend.

The only way he is going to get that car to last another 5 years is to park it and leave it parked.

Problems with transportation is up there higher than indebtedness to me. In 2011, right after the terrible disasters in Japan, I bought a new 2011 Honda Fit. "Blue Boy" is the best car I've ever had. So glad I don't have to worry about car repairs, not getting to my clients homes, getting from point A to point B and having my car towed and all the extra expense.

Glad you are going car shopping. YOU pick the car out please! LOL
