So Mad at Myself! --Rant

Tuesday, February 11, 2014

I don't know why I don't listen to myself. On Sunday, I got a lead from another agent for a buyer who wanted to see a house she had listed. I wasn't going to do any showings on Sunday as I had plans. At first, I kept saying no. Then the buyer called me and left me a message. He really wanted to see the house. He had cash. He wasn't in a rush, but he had to see it that day because there was another offer coming in on it. I had just shown the house the day before and I told him everything that was wrong with it because it really didn't seem to fit what he was looking for.

We showed him the house and he decided to write an offer. Something was just off about the guy. I just knew he wasn't quite right. I got the offer done before we left for dinner. I sent it to him. An hour later, I contacted him to see why he hadn't submitted it back to me as I had to get it in. He said he was busy doing other things. But, would get it back to me that night. I reminded him that I was leaving for the evening.

When I got back, he did have all the docs to me and I submitted them to the agent. Then he proceeded to text me until 10:30 at night. I finally told him I was going to bed. He had 2.5 hours during the afternoon to get hold of me with any questions. He was fine with that.

Yesterday his offer was accepted. He asked why his offer was accepted and if they accepted his offer at the price he offered, he wanted to lower it. Long story short. This continued for a while yesterday until again I cut him off. Actually, his offer wasn't the highest, but he did have cash.

Today, I ask him for his address for some documents. His response was I DONT WANT THE HOUSE. CANCEL THE CONTRACT. That's all he wrote over and over. He wouldn't even respond to my phone calls. Now, we're not talking a young first time buyer here. He has owned two houses prior to this.

The sellers are fine and I sent a cancellation and mutual release to him as well as an amendment ending my agreement to represent him. I want nothing more to do with him! Now he won't send back those documents.

This completely goofed up my day as I was in the middle of working out. I ended up doing 3 different workouts which turned into burning over 500 calories and 5 miles.

I am just so angry at myself because I knew when I met him, there was something weird about him. I knew it when I talked to him. How does someone move from a 2,000 square foot home in a very nice area to a 950 sq ft run down short sale?

I gave up my day off and my time for nothing. Just because I didn't listen to myself. From now on, I am following my gut! emoticon

What a terrible experience! It's awful that someone has so little respect and integrity to ruin your day like that. I hope you don't have too many more experiences like that one. Next time, really take your day off...

That's smart that you're going to follow your instincts, as that could very well save your life if need be. I used to see that on Oprah, follow your instincts and if someone seems off, believe it they are. So- good job on that one because you got confirmation! Not all was lost but sorry it messed up your time. Hugs.

Sounds like that dude is not at all glued together. However - there are a good number of looney-toons out there and if you deal with the public - you are going to get to meet some of them. No way areound that. Sorry it was such a mess and next time you might want to give greater credence to your instincts.

Wow, listening to your stories, I have decided that Real Estate is not a good thing to take up! I had thought about doing it just for a bit of income after I was retired, but I have decided that the crazies are not worth it! I can do without those kinds of people wasting my time. That is what that guy did, he wasted all your time. Of course, we are downsizing from 2320 square feet to just over 900, so some people are going to really want that. Sounds like your gut is always right, I have found that mine is, too, in dealing with people. Never has done me wrong, I have learned to listen.

In your defense, you are a person who wants to help others so I see why you did it! emoticon
