Juicing and stuff

Tuesday, February 11, 2014

So, I watched the documentary 'Fat, Sick, and nearly dead' about a week ago. It really inspired me to go on a juice fast. The guy did it for 60 days and totally changed his life. HOWEVER...I think I was a bit to gung ho. I did order a juicer and his book and used both for the first time yesterday. I did get a very affordable juicer with good ratings just in case I hated using it. lol. I do think there is no way I'm going to do a juice 'fast'. I just cannot handle it. I made his 'Joe's Mean Green' juice yesterday. It was a cucumber, a bunch of kale, half a lemon, two small apples, a dab of ginger, and..maybe that was all. Anyway, it was the nastiest thing I've ever put in my mouth. On the show they made it seem like it was tasty. lol. And, I was really hungry.

I know..i'm a sissy. But, I've re-thought this out and my new goal is to juice lunch and eat a healthy breakfast and dinner..adding in a lot more veggies into my diet..which was my main goal with all of this anyway. That plus quick weight loss..but is quick weight loss really worth being miserable every day?

Anyway, I am losing some weight finally. I've just been aware of my portions and have been making good choices here and there. Still making some bad ones..like having a mountain dew most days..and not making super healthy dinners. But, I've been making a lot of good choices also. I think the reason i've not been losing more this winter is my lack of activity. The days I wore my fitbit I was only logging 5000 steps..max. In the warm months when I can get outside and do things I generally log around 10000 on average. And, yes, there are things I can do inside for fitness and activity..I just don't ENJOY doing them so have to push myself more to do it. I think I also need to cut my calories more because of the reduction in activity. The juice would help with that for sure. Or just tracking and being aware and staying within my goal range. I adjusted my goal date this morning here on spark so hopefully that reduced the amount of calories they were giving me as my goal each day. They were way to high!

I admire you for trying to do the green smoothie. I've never tasted one (except at Costco), but just the looks of drinking something green, would take a bit to drink. I also was at a Vita Mix demonstration at Costco a few years ago and they passed around some kind of green drink... and it was good. I can't remember what they put in it. I've been wanting to get a juice and so some juicing, but just haven't broken down and gotten one, Last summer a few times my brothers juiced a cucumber for me because they said it was supposed to be good for gout. I didn't notice any difference, but I think I'd have to drink a bunch everyday to help my gout.

I think you're on the right track going with eating whole foods. You do really well in your activity and getting in lots of steps. I finally found my FITBIT over the weekend! I was so worried that somehow it had gotten thrown away on accident.

Keep Up the Great Work!
Go Jen Go!
Hugs

I think that is an excellent idea! Some apples, carrots, bananas, spinach and celery make a good mix...my dad made me one of those.

I know what you mean about the green juice drink, yet when I buy one premade at store it's pretty good, ...lots of sugar I'm sure! I've found if I will do a protein fruit smoothie for breakfast and a soup for lunch it helps get more veggies/fruit in and helps with the calories too. Best of luck to you, you'll still use your juicer so it wasn't a wasted purpose, wouldn't it be nice if we could see peoples real reactions to those drinks lol

Keep making healthy food choices because the reality is that what we eat plays a bigger part in our weight than exercise. Of course exercise is extremely beneficial in many ways, but, we can exercise and still not get the results we want if our food intake is not good.

    emoticon sounds like progress! *yay*

naw, the idea of juicing/green drinks roils my tummy. I found some capsules instead, LOL. however, I did try a sample at Costco one day at a VitaMix demonstration. It was green from spinach, which I couldn't taste because there was so much fruit in it, I think, from pineapple to apples, maybe some carrots. I know a lot of people juice and do smoothies regularly, so maybe you can find some that are delish. I think it would be cool and refreshing in the summer!

On Sparks food tracker~~you can SET your daily calorie goals to whatever YOU want...
Even with my activity being fairly good...Sparks had my goal calories set WAY to high if I wanted to lose weight~~So I set my own for 1200 to 1300 daily~
AN IF~~IF~~ emoticon I stay in this range ( counting *everything* I put in my mouth...no cheating myself~)
I DO Lose each week!
