Get my funk ON, indeed!

'Roll Away Your Stone' - Mumford and Sons

Apparently I did, indeed, forget one (THANK YOU, Kate):

funk
/fəNGk/
noun

4. that which is funky, open bluesey songs of joy. As in get your funk on. Do the funky chicken. Dance for the joy of it. When the world of reality and darkness is there, because life is balanced with both, throw your hands in the air and dance as if you don't care.

...this is what friends are for: when you forget, they remind you of who you REALLY are....

I was so concerned about fixing what was 'wrong' today I forgot for a bit that 'I' don't have to fix anything. I must simply listen for the music in my soul, and dance.

So, this evening I got my funk on (a distinctly blues, bluegrass, rock vibe... and I DANCED)!

Thought I'd share (dance with me!):

'Roll Away Your Stone'
by Mumford and Sons

Roll away your stone, I'll roll away mine
Together we can see what we will find
Don't leave me alone at this time
For I am afraid of what I will discover inside

'Cause you told me that I would find a hole
Within the fragile substance of my soul
And I have filled this void with things unreal
And all the while my character it steals

Darkness is a harsh term don't you think?
And yet it dominates the things I see

It seems that all my bridges have been burnt
But you say that's exactly how this grace thing works.
It's not the long walk home that will change this heart
But the welcome I receive with every start

Darkness is a harsh term don't you think?
And yet it dominates the things I see
Darkness is a harsh term don't you think?
And yet it dominates the things I see

Stars hide your fires
These here are my desires
And I will give them up to you this time around
And so I'll be found
With my stake stuck in this ground
Marking the territory of this newly impassioned soul

Hide your fires
These here are my desires
And I will give them up to you this time around
And so I'll be found
With my stake stuck in this ground
Marking the territory of this newly impassioned soul

But you, you've gone too far this time
You have neither reason nor rhyme
With which to take this soul that is so rightfully mine

Another good one. I've never quite decided if it makes me happy or sad, but I think it works under any circumstances and when played loudly, makes me want to dance!!! Oh, and added bonus: the band members are incredibly nice. My brother first heard them at a Radiohead concert in Seattle and turned me on to them. When they came to Portland last year for a show, we went, and were the incredibly excited fans. Well, brother and I were in the front (it was a tiny venue, only 100 people, maybe a bit more) and Jesse (the lead) bent down to get something from his bag and my brother said, "hey, Jesse!" and then proceeded to have a short conversation. Well, after the show, the band came out into the crowd and mingled, had beer, etc. They were incredible and some of the nicest people I've met. Not long after, my brother was at a comedy show and saw Jesse and said "hey!", and I'm pretty sure Jesse thought he had a stalker. Then, when Jesse posted an invite to take on a few students for song-writing lessons, my brother jumped on the opportunity (he plays guitar and "tries" to write songs). So long story short...they are now good buddies. We went to Jesse's birthday party over the summer, met his mom and grandma. Not that any of this is important, but they are such good people and so incredibly talented! The songs have so many layers to them, they are amazing.

AWESOME! What a PERFECT way to shout down the lies, untruths, tripping points... and DANCE to the TRUTH!

You are finding a way to "shout" into the face of "funk" and dance into the LIGHT!

Hang in there!
