What Has Happened???

Monday, February 10, 2014

I walked, indoors again today. I had a hard day with pain in my back and neck but when it got to be 4 o'clock, I got up looked out the window and started walking. I live on the 6th floor and have an unobstructed view of the road 1 , short, building over.. I watched the traffic and counted yellow cars, don't ask. I also thought, I'll count the buses. Only 1 of those too but watching for something took my mind off the time and the 10 minutes passed quickly. Much better than watching the clock tick by. Did it hurt this time? Yes!! But it was only my hips this time. My back already hurt so what was the difference? Tomorrow is video day again. I am going back to the same video for 10 minutes again. Someone suggested that I could increase my time. I am not ready to do that. I am taking my time this time. I will know when I am ready to move forward. Right now all I am thinking about is moving every day. That is enough for me to concentrate on. I fully expect to be back here tomorrow but we are having dinner guests so it might not be till Wednesday morning. It's all good though.

I'm glad you walked. My girls and I used to count different colored cars as we did things. You reminded me of that. Often when I walk, I'll think of the strangest things or concentrate on looking for certain things. It does help. Have you ever heard of Leslie Sansone? She has walking DVDs. I bought a couple at Wal Mart (the cheapest there - under $10) and I've found a couple at garage sales.

I came across a site on the internet that when I put in my zip code, it sends me an email every day of garage and estate sales in the area. So, when the weather's nice, I stick some money in my pocket, plan my route and start walking. I found quite a bit of bargains last summer and it sure made my walking easier - unless, of course, I bought too much and had trouble getting it all home. I learned to limit how much money I took.

You know best about your body. That is great you are trusting yourself.
Good idea to distract yourself. Leslie Sansone has some walking tapes.
She is quite distracting....also quite positive. She talks constantly!

Good going you did what you could and did a great job taking your mind off the pain with what you had available to you. Tomorrow is another day and you will just have to keep playing it by ear take each day as it comes and listen to your body push it a little but don't overdo it you will know when enough is enough. I am so proud of you. emoticon emoticon emoticon

I agree do what you want and how you feel comfortable as you can. I know in chronic pain they said do it for a week at least at the first and then only increase slightly. if you have pain you should only go from say 5 mins to 6 for 3 days then 7 etc. do not go 5, 10, 15 it is too hard. interesting cos I find it hard to just go up that bit. I can do 10 so did do 12 of the bike. I was at 20 or so before but my knee is worse so thought okay I will build it back up. lol very hard to see a iff doing it one min at a time.....
YOU ARE DOING GREAT!!!!!!!!! good for you!!!!

Gini again I am so proud of you. I agree that you should take your time and as much time as you need before you increase your minutes. I have been walking 15 minutes a day sometimes 20 for 3 months now and I am still experiencing being very winded by the time I get to my destination, however it doesn't last as long as it used too. So by the time Spring gets here and I can get out and walk I may be up to increasing my minutes. So hang in there hon and just keep doing your 10 minutes until you are ready to add more. Remember 10 is more than none and doing something is better than not.

Way to go Gini !!!
