"Stop Looking for Short Cuts" (2014 - Blog #40)

Sunday, February 09, 2014

Part of the mental toughness course reminds us to "stop looking for short cuts". Oh my, isn't that the truth!

When I view television, so much of our advertisement IS about short cuts. We are such a "quick" "now" "fast" society. ("We" being pretty much anywhere!!)
emoticon Learn a language with no pain or time using THIS special DVD.
emoticon Make money faster by winning the lottery.
emoticon Eat breakfast faster by running to the fast food places.
emoticon Fix lunch faster by using a boxed food.
and of course...
emoticon Lose weight faster by using a fancy-wancy machine and a pill.

Here's the thing for me though. When I take a short cut I really do not feel as proud and as fulfilled as when I do the hard work.
emoticon When I spend time reading and studying, I feel like my brain got its needed work out.
emoticon When I cook a meal from scratch, it pleases me!
emoticon When I cut my own veggies, it just tastes better!
emoticon When I work out, I feel energized.
emoticon When I plan and expend the time to do something thoroughly, I smile inwardly.

Short cuts may seem like a good idea, but there are just not that many instances that short cuts improve who I am as a person, inside and out.

Off to make dinner...chili made from scratch!

Enjoy your "full cut" day :)

Something worked for has greater value in our eyes than something handed to us. I value my present weight!

Love the quote - so true.

Short cuts - so true.

We have become a fast response, expect it now, society.

Thanks for the reminder that those things worthwhile come at a cost of time, but worth it some times.

As I am in a 'discussing' mood and thankful for all the modern conveniences that allow me to 'short-cut' being a hunter-gatherer, I do like the idea of taking time to do what is important, if you are so blessed to do so.
I also am hopeful the food industry will find a way to make reasonably priced, healthy 'fast' meals for those single parent households that are holding down several jobs...

    Yep, I agree.
And do. I have always made food from scratch. I like the smells and textures.

    You are so right!
Short cuts take away some of the pleasures of achievement.

I think the veggies taste even BETTER when my sister cuts them! LOL. She makes the best salads.

But you are right. There is a lot more to be gained by doing it yourself. And frankly, it doesn't take that much longer to prepare yourself than to buy frozen, prepackaged, over-processed junk.
