Snowmageddon and better day

Sunday, February 09, 2014

Yes, we call it "snowmageddon" in Oregon even when we only get a light snow flurry, but this time it was for real!

It is now day 6 of being stuck at my parents' house, although to be fair, I was here voluntarily for the first few days. Didn't expect Snowmageddon to keep me from going home. Paleo seems like a distant dream and my long-ago childhood...not so much. I love my parents dearly, but this is just bringing back so many memories, lol. They've been fantastic and I have no actual complaints. They have been lovely and I've been enjoying this time immensely.

I introduced them to Game of Thrones and we're already in the middle of the second season. That's a whole lot of gratuitous sex to watch with your parents....but we're all adults...right? I have conveniently offered to make a lot of our meals while they watched the show.

I tried to make it home today and got off of the highway at the first exit I reached and went back to my parents' home. It is way too scary out there to drive the 60 miles home. Scary, and dangerous, and not worth it. There was so much slush on the roads it was impossible to drive. Plus, that packed snow that always gets really tall and hard in the middle of the lane...I don't know what that's called, but I went right back to my parents' home. I called my neighbor and asked her to put out a big bowl of food for the cats. Poor kitties :( I hope they venture out of the house long enough to find the food on the front porch.

Food? My goodness...it has been very difficult to be good this week. We've been eating a lot of fried foods...not deep-fried, but fried nonetheless. First, we had fried cauliflower (dipped in flour and egg), then fried fish patties (yum!). But, ugh!!!

Exercise? Non-existant.

Well, it's just about over. I'll be back home tomorrow.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend!

GAME OF THRONES! I am SO late to the game (hehe) on this one, but started watching season 1 last week (the public library had the whole season! WOOT!), before a friend told me it was a book, too... Feeling a little ashamed (I have an English degree for cryin' out loud) for not knowing it was based on a book, I bought all 4 books for my tablet... and try to read it instead of snacking after dinner! (That hasn't kept me away from the honey roasted almonds completely... but at least it wasn't ice cream.) Also: over here in eastern Oregon, we've been spending our days sledding! I LOVE this state!

Smart to choose safety! Honestly, I LOVE snow days... nothing I like better than impromptu holiday with everyone I love trapped with me! Too bad your DH couldn't join you.

It always made my family laugh when it snowed in the PNW - people don't know how to deal with the snow, and the roads don't get plowed because there isn't any equipment for it, and it's just a big giant mess! (Compared to places that are used to snow, the PNW just goes totally helpless!)

Stay warm and snug and safe - it'll melt soon enough.

I hope they do something with your roads soon. That is scary!!

At least your kitties have access to food. We have a stray kitty that showed up. It is living in our old shed. It's a calico. It is eying the bird feeder and I have to run it off. I told hubby about it. He is not too fond of kitties hanging around the bird feeder or living in the shed but he will abide it as long as it doesn't tear the vehicles up.

Fried cauliflower and fried fish patties sound good. Have not had them in a while.
